The slaves had to do whatever white people said, such as pick cotton, and if the people were displeased, they would whip the slaves. The slaves were sold like a horse, they said, they pick the best one, which really shows how POC back then were treated as objects. Also, it didn't occur to me how AFTER the emancipation, the former slaves were in extreme poverty and they had to continue to suffer. They former slaves told how they felt they were slaves their whole life and they couldn't believe they were alive. He said the peaceful people had gotten schools to be unsegregated when really they were still segregated. Martin Luther King's point still stands stronger though. Even if peacefulness isn't getting much change now, violence will only make change for the worse so it is not the answer.

But then when he got older he recognized that they started making excuses to not play with him solely based off his skin. I think it shows a lot about how racism isn't something youre born with, before, the kids that played with MLK saw nothing wrong with being with him, but then they were taught and influenced that hanging out with him was bad so they were basically taught to be racist.

I think it shows how segregation and racial injustice was really a problem everywhere you went, it didn’t just happen sometimes; it was something Black people had to live with. Another thing I noticed is his tone when talking about the many racial problems he encountered growing up. It is as if he talking about it like he is used to it, which he probably was. Once they were let go, they didn't know where to go, they didn't have anywhere to go, so they had to stay.  Additionally, once they did find jobs, they worked and worked and worked, only to find that one job wasn't enough, making it so that they had to work even more.
