b.2. In charismatic authority, the death of a leader effectively ends the power of that authority, and only through a rationalized and bureaucratic base can this authority be passed on. Traditional authorities in rationalized societies also tend to develop a rational-legal base to better ensure a stable accession.

Power is the capacity in which one can influence the beliefs and actions of others, through possibly illegitimate means, and people holding power may not command the acceptance of of that power by people.

Authority is legitimate power granted to certain groups or individuals, and it is mandatory for people to accept them.

   ii. Rational-Legal Authority
   iii. Charismatic Authority

i. Traditional Authority is ingrained in a society's traditional beliefs, religion, customs and culture. Power is automatically assigned to those believed to be "chosen" by god to govern the people, or inherited from a monarchial bloodline.

ii. Rational-Legal Authority is based on the people's faith in the law. Authority is elected and those in power are trusted to take actions based on the law of a society.

iii. Charismatic Authority is exercised by individuals who wield exceptional personality traits and qualities, able to influence many with their lifestyles and beliefs. People are subject to them because of a strong sense of admiration of the person in power. 

Rational-Legal Authority represents rationalisation. It is the most systematic type of authority and fair to people. It strays from traditional thinking and is within the thinkings of rationalisation.

c. Weber's ideas of the three authorities are ideas that made up human history, impacting the world today. These very same ideas of authority are also exercised today, all around the globe. - Traditional authority: people willingly obey somebody because they believe in the legitimacy of those who are called by those traditions to rule. Ordained by god to rule over people
- Rational Legal authority: Authorised to enforce law. It is the most rational kind of authority because it is based on law and people have faith in law and fairness and this kind of authority follows this criteria. The realm of rational legal authority is increasing while traditional authority is decreasing.
c. It's very important to understand Max Webers ideas because we live in a century where we are ruled by all these kinds of authority. It is important to understand these different kinds of authority to distinguish ideal social action according to each authority.

set policy. This form of authority is a hallmark of modern democracies, where power 
is given to people elected by voters, and the rules for wielding that power are usually 
set forth in a constitution, a charter, or another written document. 

 charismatic authority
stems from an individual’s extraordinary personal qualities and 
from that individual’s hold over followers because of these qualities.

can reside in a person who came to a position of leadership
