I can see how its done but actually getting some practice myself really helps solidify the knowledge and allows me to build on it. I think it is dependent on what you are trying to learn that you should apply the learning style best suited. Any sort of diagram really helps augment my learning personally. If there is a concept I do not understand, seeing a picture almost automatically helps, and something clicks into place. I often refer back to figures when I forget certain things. Ex. If I am not stimulated enough and I only have sound aka a professor just reading off a slide of a power point for 2 hours- I will not retain ANY information. That being said, I took an Art History course where the professor did exactly that for 2 hours and it was my favorite class and I got an A. In any assignment when given the option I will almost always choose to write. This especially helped me when I was in high school. I think building IKEA  furniture is what best describes my need for visuals. I can read the directions over and over again, and still not know what to do. But I can quickly look at the diagrams/pictures and follow along. In sports, visuals also helped me a lot.
