QUESTION #2: Do you believe it is a teacher's responsibility to prepare students for the SAT/ACT? If so, how will you do it?

Q1: I will encourage my students to dream big and do their research. They should make a plan and achievable steps to accomplish their goals.
Q2: It is our responsibility to help students to learn to think critically and to acquire test taking strategies. As teachers, we may not use tests for all of our formal assessments, but it is still important to have some tests in class so that students do not feel overwhelmed when they encounter the SAT/ACT.

Question #1: I will encourage my students to find something that they are passionate about and think about how they can learn to use that passion in a career; doing something that will enjoy doing everyday. I will also encourage them to do their best work always! Mediocracy is not acceptable.
Question #2: I think it is our responsibility to enlighten students on the resources available to aid them in preparation of the SAT/ACT. I will give them test taking tips and perhaps allow them time in the classroom to practice. As each student will have a different struggle, it will be difficult to prepare each student individually.

1. OMG! She's beautiful.
I would encourage them to want to know all they can about what they're passionate about and express with them that post-secondary education gives students the tools to do that and the opportunities to explore their passion at the highest degree.
2. We HAD to take a SAT/ACT prep class in high school. So, while yes I think it is our job to open up our students' minds to the possibilities of likeness between subjects and test questions, I think that we can only give them general encouragement if not responsible to do so.

1. To be honest, I don't know that I will encourage my kids to go after post-secondary education in the classic sense. I don't want to push them to go to college. I just want to push them to keep learning, and whether that is through university, vocational school or their own study on their own time is their choice.
2. I think as educators, we have a certain responsibility to help our students learn how to take tests and make their test time as stress-less as possible, but I don't think we should put as much emphasis on the SAT/ACT as we do.

1. Everything is moderation. I think we want students to pursue post-secondary education so much that it becomes overbearing. those conversations need to start early, not waiting until senior/junior year, then trying to jam it down their throats.

2. I think we can find ways to connect our current curriculum to the SAT/ACT. I don't think I will be as intentional as teaching the test because the content of those tests are ever-changing. I just want my students to fell confident enough in themselves and their knowledge base to know that they can achieve great things, be it passing a test, getting into college, or otherwise.
