With the growing range of diversity within the walls of schools, ignoring the cultural variances within a classroom is a disservice to both teachers and students. This gap supersedes just race and ethnicity; it also includes the age disconnect between staff and students. If teachers can present culturally relevant texts, they can scaffold the material and begin to shift the responsibility from themselves to students, who flock towards pop culture, ethnocentric material, and music. If they are reading, writing, and thinking about higher level concepts, in correlation to material that interests them, they will rise to the challenge and accept the responsibility of their own education. Through various text types, writing and output opportunities, and a variety of tech tools, any teacher can create a “Pop-ethn-ically” Relevant learning environment.
