Some students fly through material with ease, others need to take their time. This is a difficult balance for the classroom teacher. Blended learning allows students to go through material at their own pace, breezing over easier material, and slowing down for more difficult concepts. Blended learning is based on the student and their individual needs so they can progress at a comfortable pace for themself.

Blended learning shifts to a more student-driven, bottom-up, more customized classroom. Not everyone is doing everything together at the same time. Student's are more accountable for their learning because they have more freedom to self-pace and spend more time on concepts they are struggling with. The idea is to empower students with the idea that they have a more important and responsible role in their own learning. Instead of solely relying on the teacher to provide all necessary information, students use technology to find and implement relevant information needed for assessments and projects. Instead of just learning the information, they are using it to create and solve problems.

In a blended classroom, the teacher's role shifts from the traditional teacher-directed "knowledge provider" to a more customized, student-driven classroom experience where teachers are more facilitators of learning rather than omniscient overseers. Teachers still lead discussions and provide support for student learning, but it's more individualized and offers more face-to-face interaction.
