The lack of free musical/ theatrical programs for younger children. (Idea by: Durga Thaker Grade 9)

Problem: I noticed that younger children, around the elementary school age, are not exposed as much to theater and the arts, as compared to sports.

There are many people who I know only found out about theater/ the fine arts after entering middle school, and the people who I know were already involved in fine arts programs were paying a lot of money. I think as a younger person, theater could provide a "safe space" or some peace, especially because younger people's problems tend to be invalidated. Being exposed to arts at such a young age could provide the children with a passion or hobby at a young age that they can continue for the rest of their lives.

Plan: Perhaps my friends and I could provide a place where kids are exposed to theater and allowed to participate in theater for free. We could spread awareness throughout the elementary schools in our area, and through social media. We could do an event like this about every 2 weeks to a month, and provide younger children with an earlier option of art.

Costs: Food/ Snacks (if provided)

EXTRA INFO:

I would try to ask either CHS or TRMS if they were willing to lend me their spaces. If that is not possible, we could go to a free public place like a park.

Healthcare Education & Access (Primarily Younger Kids)- Prakalya Thangavelu - 9th Grade

One problem I feel is rooted in our community is that younger kids, especially in elementary school, don't have access to healthcare education as much as older kids. While kids do learn about some aspects of keeping their body healthy and hygiene habits, they don't understand the true reasons as to why we do certain things. For example, why do we eat fiber rich fruits? We do so to prevent cholesterol. At this age, it is important to instill good healthcare habits. Even promoting brushing your teeth well and taking care of your gums can prevent you from getting chronic diseases such as Autoimmune in the future! However, kids may not be able to process this information well but they can if they view the information in fun formats. We could make fun and animated PSA videos and interactive presentations that kids understand. Apart from this, we could make donations to healthcare facilities and more! There are many ways to branch of this!

A problem is pediatric patients feeling isolated and uncomfortable during their stay at the hospital. We aim to alleviate the patients of their discomfort by organizing care packages and fundraising for the hospitals. We would like to pair with Ronald McDonald House to get donations and help fundraise. We plan to reach out to hospitals and see if we could help organize care packages for pediatric patients. Our mission is to make hospitals feel more homely during distressing times. - Olivia S., Aditi J., Meghna S.

The idea is to work with local feeder elementary schools to create an educational program for elementary school students. This project is fueled by the lack of mentorship and guidance children might face, and to provide assistance for them in self development. Not only does this project strive to provide motivation, encouragement, and spread positivity but the goal is to educate them on possible career choices and provide information that will help them continue to grow as students. To achieve this, the program would be centered around informing and educating the students through crafts and engaging activities as well as exposing them to new fields with each session.

Passion Project: Women's health

Supporting women's health, especially when it comes to menstruation, means building a community that listens, educates, and provides help. One of the most powerful ways to make an impact is through organizing period drives to collect and distribute menstrual supplies to shelters, community centers, and low income neighborhoods. Partnering with local non profits, clinics, or women organizations can expand these efforts and reach people who often go without the products they need. Workshops and open discussions can also help women and girls feel comfortable sharing their experience, learning about menstrual hygiene, and supporting one another.

In addition to drives, advocacy and awareness campaigns can make lasting change. Hosting informational booths, social media campaigns, or fundraising events helps raise awareness about period poverty and the need for affordable menstrual care. Volunteers can create care kits with pads, wipes, and educational pamphlets for distribution in the community. By focusing on direct support and empowerment, we help women gain access to the resources and confidence they need to care for themselves, creating a more compassionate and equal society where menstrual health is recognized as a basic human right -Nihitha Chandran and Sally Jung
