My Learning diary
Hello everyone. I am an English teacher in a secondary school in the South Italy. I am a support teacher too. Diversity and a pluralistic culture are an opportunity to improve my teaching strategies. I hope to learn more because “there is no difference rather a special normalcy”.

I think it is important to encourage students to develop awareness about diversity like enrichment. Teachers have to provide information on how to meet the needs of all students in an inclusive environment. Dialogue and cooperative learning help to share experiences and roles. Alicia talks about promoting dialogue and debate. In my opinion “flipped classroom” and “cooperative learning” are useful strategies to create a friendly environment in our classroom. The fondamental element is the empathy. Students learn to respect each other and to better the socialization process.

My students are 14-18 years old. There are some well-integrated Moroccan students. Religion is often a way to exchange ideas though religious difference doesn’t separate them but it becomes an occasion to discuss and debate. Most of them helps their family in own farms so they are responsible boys. Many families have got economical problems and their background is humble. A small reality where interaction is almost familiar. The atmosphere is friendly and all teachers have a positive relationship with them.

2 Module Development of intercultural competences. I teach groups of students from 14 to 18 years old. A sense of calm and friendly atmosphere is an essential key to motivate and encourage them. Empathy, sensitivity, patience and self-consciousness is a way to improve their different learning styles. I agree with Alicia and Erika on intercultural competences and new strategies. Research of past generations, pictures, videos and so on, are exactly that and part of my job. I like ICT. My students are familiar with them. When they work in group, they realize games, videos easily and emotions education becomes important too. I think cooperative learning can be an effective strategy to develop intercultural competences. Last year I organized a comedy with fifty pupils to raise money for charity. It was very fun and they helped one another to succe All parents and pupils were satisfied and happy to help children in Ghana.

We haven’t got a Multicultural School. I was fascinated with this integrated method of learning. Parents are part of all teaching-learning process. The lending library is interesting too. Erika talks about visual supports. I often use these supports because in my classes there are some special needs pupils and LIM, PC, big pictures are some useful tools. I believe that it’s important to maintain the connection with own origin so I am a supporter of the dialect. I often make a comparison with the different words and my pupils always enjoy.
