I don't think much on the past, but this one really opened my eyes to some of my childhood. I was so blessed to have a great childhood with my loving parents and family. Sure, nothing is ever perfect, but I couldn't ask for a better set of parents to have spent my life with. They have truly always been there for me and I owe them so much. (I'm not crying, you're crying. I think I need to go hug my mom now.)

Thinking about my life and good memories has brought me to a place where I actually enjoy thinking about it. I know that doesn't make too much sense to y'all but I know what it means. ☺ It brought me to tears, me laughing so hard that I actually fell out of my seat and hit my head, and overall, joy. Thank you for the opportunity of sharing my thoughts and memories. I hope y'all actually like them. ☺

What I had learned before about this specific topic though was that writing was easiest if you kept at it. If you erased all your work when you thought it wasn't good enough, you wouldn't have 1. notes if you ever need to go back or 2. anything to turn in to the teacher, if it was getting too close to the due date, and you didn't know what else you could write about.

The only goal I have for myself is to improve my writing style and gain even more confidence in my writing.

The eaisest part -
Growing up cheer was the most important thing to me. Whether it was just being at practice, or on the stage whilst the music was playing and the judges were intently watching, no matter what part of it it was, i always enjoyed it. So, when writing about my most important competition moment was pretty easy to remember as i'll never forget when my team took home the Victory.

One goal -
Getting better at writing. I adore writing with a passion, but i'm more of a on paper writer than a word document one. I enjoy free writing, and i'd love to get better at story lines and character description.

What I learned about myself -
I learned no matter how far back a memory takes you, if it's important it will stick with you for the rest of your life. Even while writing this paper I felt the same rush and thrill as I did on the stage during a performance. It's always such an easy thing to write about something you love. I learned how much i will forever miss those days.

I chose my topic about a person who means a lot to me and made a huge impact in my life; even though, I hardly seen him. I revised 3 or 4 times going back periodically over a span of two hours checking if anything was wrong. I did not really go back and forth when I was writing it, because I felt like I had a pretty strong topic. In the revision process, I changed some of the wording I used in the sentences such as when something just did not sound right. I made these changes, because I knew it would make my paper sound better. Also, I would get a higher grade. I did not get any peer review edits from anyone. I feel excellent about my final memoir, because I feel like I used an extreme amount of imagery when trying to show what I was feeling and seeing. I feel like I could have made the story more interesting to the reader; even though, it was a important time for me. I would like to work on my word choice, because I feel like I could use more extensive words. I need to expand my vocabulary just a little bit.

I found it difficult to think of one singular event that effected my life. I also noticed that for such a long time I have been told to extensively use modifiers to make my writing colorful so having to not do that forced me to completely go against my writing style. I did find that peer review was really helpful. Everyone was really nice and professional and also had a lot of great feedback to offer. I also really enjoyed getting to read other people's memoirs. Overall, I think Mrs. McCardle did a really good job of making what was expected of us clear. On a relatively unrelated note, I think it is harder to have one event that shaped your life when you are just a teenager. I think it might be easier for you to write a memoir when you were older because you would have more experiences to reflect on.

I found that my first instinct when writing a description was to make a statement instead of truly showing. Nevertheless, I think this assignment has made me much more aware of the importance and effectiveness of showing. While I may have struggled a bit writing the narrative, I ultimately enjoyed learning about the ins and outs of a memoir and am happy I got the opportunity to try it out.
