EXAMPLE: The title of Part 1 is "The Hearth and the Salamander." The hearth symbolizes the fireplace (or area of the floor around a fireplace) and the salamander symbolizes the firemen. The title of this part is essentially concerning the home and the firemen and will probably include their relationship. We will see how the fire affects Montag in his home and we will see what his relationship with his wife is like.

On page 13, one of the operators says, "You don't need an M.D.," as well as the narrator stating on page 12 that he "stood smoking a cigarette," and wore, "nonstainable reddish-brown coveralls." This shows that the setting this story is located in has really fallen apart, to where people who operate on others don't need a degree, and can wear more casual clothing and smoke. The city is in such a high desperation for medical people that they don't care who they take, and these guys in particular aren't very well-versed in the medical practices of wearing appropriate clothing and not smoking as to not cause additional damage.

On Pg. 1- "With his symbolic helmet numbered 451 on his stolid head, and his eyes all orange flame with the thought of what came next, he flickered the igniter and the house jumped up in a gorging fire that burned the evening sky red and yellow and black. He strode in a swarm of fireflies".

On pages 5 and 6 we began to learn that Guy Montag's wife, Mildred, isn't in good health and because they have a bad relationship together. For example, on page 5 it says, "His wife stretched on the bed, uncovered and cold, like a body displayed on the lid of a tomb, her eyes fixed to the ceiling by invisible threads of steel, immovable." This quote shows how it seems that his wife is not very capable of sleeping. It also says on page 6, ". The small crystal bottle of sleeping-tablets which earlier today had been filled with thirty capsules and which now lay uncapped and empty in the light of the tiny flare." This shows how she could have have tried to commit suicide.

Guy Montag is comfortable and doesn't show a trace of guilt after he burned the house down, and this helps us get a better idea of his personality.

Montag then goes into his house and realizes maybe he isn't realy truly happy with himself he said he wore his happiness like a mask and that his room is empty. I think this can lead to a sudden change of heart and him and Clarisse can challenge and change the society
