5. The reflection on the role of teachers

The article “Redefining the role of the teacher in education through Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)” by Haci Hasan Yolcu highlights how AGI will profoundly transform the education system, especially the role of teachers. The teacher is no longer expected to be the sole source of knowledge, but a facilitator and guide accompanying the student in personalized learning processes. AGI, having the ability to adapt content and pace according to individual needs, offers opportunities for a more meaningful education, but also poses ethical challenges related to data privacy and the balance between the technological and the human.

In this new scenario, the role of the English teacher must go beyond teaching grammar rules or vocabulary. English teachers are called to integrate AI tools such as language models, chatbots or voice analyzers that support the development of communicative skills in a more dynamic and individualized way. However, their key role will be to select, contextualize and humanize these resources, ensuring that they align with pedagogical objectives. Emotional accompaniment, intercultural competence and communication strategies will continue to be uniquely human contributions to language teaching.
