Building word bank based on themes for P6
For my MTSP class, i created flash cards and list of words based on pictures.
The flash cards contain translation of the words in English and example of sentence so that students know how to use it in picture descriptions.

Our conversation component has 3 parts.

I state the basic expectations such as what each individual student is expected to deliver. I break it down for them by stating which student must minimally deliver how many sentences per question.

I practice 'Word of the Day' with the students. Whatever word that they come across on that day be it during lesson or conversation, I will display it on the board throughout the lesson. Together we will reiterate the meaning and recall the word after a week. By the end of the week, they will know 5 new words.

Constantly recapping words most often used and continue adding in a few more as we go.
I start with basics like how they should know what are the school core values, the events celebrated/commemorated in school and how they can link back to the question being asked.

Broaching the whole conversation thematically tremendously helps. Especially for our LP/lower MP students. And we can pose different angles to the HP to elicit varied responses.

I hope that in the next oral exam, HP and MP students are able to link the 5 finger technique to the picture description and elaborate without prompting. There might be some mistakes in grammar or vocabulary, but at least students are able to say without pausing

Consolidate common vocabulary terms by themes. 6-8 per theme. We can share these terms in hard copy oral packages and keep them on SLS in a digitalized manner too. We can also turn them into flashcards on Wordwall for them to revise in their own time.

Word cloud or mindmapping works for my class as they see only the key terms that usually appears for a specific theme.
Padlet is good too because the platform is user-friendly for students to input and do peer assessment thereafter.

I can categorize the word bank by starting with some words that highly likely can be used for Oral first, follow by hot topic vocabularies, and hopefully students will be more motivated to memorized it

P5 TL - All the students are able to remember the common sentences that they can use. They need to understand the theme of the video and choose the appropriate words and connect them to the school values to elaborate well on the theme.

Students to have a notebook for them to write the new words that they have learnt. They may translate the meaning in English as a start so that they are able to use the word during conversation or lesson.

Personally, I feel students need to come into the exam having an arsenal of answers ready. Using the Concentric Circles method, for any value or situation posed during exam, they should have answers on standby that they can pull out from their 'bank' to be used as answers.

It starts with inner circle of self, family, school, community and last biggest circle is global. For every circle there is an experience they can share.

By applying the 5P strategy, I wish the students will clearly state the sentence starters for each P and elaborate meaningfully.

Personally feel that our students lack content because they do not have enough experience to supplement their points and opinions. Perhaps in class we need to somehow create contexts for them to enable them with the "content" to share during oral exams.
