I was wondering why Carter and Sadie didn't destroy the magical statue of Apophis that could kill him earlier in the book, instead if doing it right before they were about to get killed by Apophis. I was wondering this because even though they knew that the spell that they used to destroy the statue would probably kill them while they were doing it, there were many times in the book where they were in situations in which they were almost certain that they would die. This makes me wonder why they didn't try to destroy the statue because and kill Apophis because if they were in a situation in which they were almost positive they were going to die then at that point they would have nothing to lose so instead of dying for nothing it would probably be better to die by trying to kill Apophis or even kill him and live. Another reason why I am wondering why they didn't try to destroy the statue earlier is because even if you died, it would still be worth it to destroy Apophis. That is one of the things that I was wondering about during the book.

I have made a connection to this book to my own life because in the book Carter who is one of the main characters has a sister named Sadie, and I also have a sister named Natalie. Also I feel that the relationship between Natalie and I is much like the relationship between Carter and Sadie for many reasons. One way that I feel that our relationships are alike is that Carter and Sadie are really, really, really good friend and know each other really well, I feel the same way with me and my sister. Because Natalie is only a year older then me we are very close in age so we can relate on many different things that are going on in our lives which I believe makes us really good friends a lot like Carter and Sadie. Another way that I think the relationship between Carter and Sadie relates to my life with Natalie and I is that in the book they joke and tease each other a lot, and it is the same way with Natalie and I. That is the connection that I made to my life from the book.

A conclusion that I am coming to about this book is that later on in the book the sun god Ra will start to actually become very important in defeating Apophis for many reasons. In the last book Carter and Sadie went on a long journey to get the sun god Ra because they knew that Apophis was rising and Ra used to be a very powerful god and they thought he could help. But when they found him they found out that he had become not himself and he had no idea what was going on, so he was pretty much completely mindless and that is how he is at this point in the book. One of the reasons that I think that Ra will end up being important in defeating Apophis is because if he didn't then most of the whole last book would have been for no reason and I don't think that would make sense. Another reason that I believe that Ra will be important later on in the book is because when one of the demons grabs Carter and pulls him down into what is pretty much the underworld for a brief moment of time so that Apophis can talk to him, Apophis tells him that if he brings him Ra then he will spare Carter and everyone he loves. This makes me think that Ra will be important later on because unless Apophis knew that Ra would be important in his defeat he wouldn't want to kill him because he would be worthless. That is why I believe that Ra will be important later on in the book in the defeat of Apophis.

A part in the book that really painted a good picture in my head was when Carter sees the shore of the Land of Demons and in his head decribes what it looks like. This part painted a really good picture in my head becuase it describes what the shore looks in great detain saying "black sand littered with bones and plumes of volcanic gas shooting from fiery crevices" Another reason why I think this part of the book painted a good picture in my head is becuase it uses lots of differnet adjectives. That is a part in the book that painted a really good picture in my head.

There are many different main events throughout the book The Serpents Shadow. First, in the beginning of the book Carter, Sadie, and their group of teenage magicians go to Texas to try and save the last of five of these scrolls that they believe may have the secret to destroying Apophis because he has been going around and has already destroyed the other four copies. But while they were retrieving it Apophis attacks, the scroll is destroyed, and they are lucky to get away with their lives. Then they get Setne who was once one of the most evil magicians of all time and they have him take them to the book of Thoth which is a very powerful book that they think may have the secret to destroying Apophis. Then after retrieving the book of Thoth they have Setne lead them to the Land of Demons because they found out that the seccret to destroying Apophis is by destroying his shadow, and The Book of Thoth tells them that The Land of Demons is where it is hidden. Next, they capture the shadow in this mini sculpture of Apophis that they made. Finally, they return to Egypt and have a huge battle against Apophis, and it finally ends when Carter and Sadie destroy the statue that contains the shadow by doing a very complex spell that they knew would probably kill both of them, but it does work and it kills Apophis but Carter and Sadie live.

This part makes me think that he is brave because he doesn't start to cry, freak out, or get really scared which I know I would do. That is why I think that Carter is really brave.
