Hello friends!
My name is Anahi Lopez, fun fact the h in my name is silent.

Some quick get to know me facts are that I love to travel, I love putting together shadow boxes (3D picture frames), and I love to watch shows (currently watching criminal minds) and please don't spoil I am only on season 4 <3 I also work at Dutch Bros, even though it is a job it is a job i love very much. I have loved every second of my time there and have had the opportunity to meet so many people, not only coworkers but also our customers! When it comes to my studies I am a sophomore at Stan State and am a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing. I do plan on changing this to Business Management and hope to have a concentration in Entrepreneurship! Being a Sophomore means I have yet to be on campus and I am sure I am not the only one in this class who hasn't been. I am counting down the days till we are all able to get back to it! Being online has allowed me to work more, and grow my relationships with my inner circle which has been very special though.

When I think of Sustainability I think of ways to help our planet but also to keep something maintained. In my daily life I think about being kind to our planet, this comes from not using plastic bottles and if I do to recycle. A lot of it comes from watching where I put things but also be aware of my surroundings and throw away things left out. This has been something that has recently been so eye opening to me and I have been doing all I can to play my part in caring for our planet.

When I think of information Literacy I think of ways to received information in the writings of others. This means reading things in general and knowing how to acquire this information. I feel that this also comes with Patience, research is needed to find credible information. But also knowing where to start looking.

I would like to be more informed about these topics in general, they are both things that can play hand in hand so I cant wait to see how these two things correlate with one another and on their own. I will be honest though ad say that I am not 100% familiar with both topics but I am excited to further develop knowledge in them throughout the course!

The topic that I have chosen is Education for Sustainable Development and it falls under the pillar of Society. This topic involves those who attend school, specifically in higher education. My topic is located on college/university campuses and high schools. ESD has developed to see that education should change to provide knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes that will make a long lasting impact in sustainable development. The importance of this is to empower and equip current and future generations with the resources they need to have a balanced and integrated approach to the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. This research is important to me because it is the future, the generations that can receive this education are the ones who can make the biggest difference. This being said how this is delivered is incredibly important which is what has driven me to research this. In researching this topic I hope to be educated on sustainable development but also be able to educate others.

One question I can ask is how do you feel you have been educated regarding sustainability or if you have not been educated.

I chose to analyze the article, "Toward a Corporate World Where Sustainability Is an expectation, Not a Goal," by Christine Bader published by The Atlantic. In this Article the author is explaining how corporations are able to implement sustainability practices to their companies and how this is able to happen also adding who has the power to implement these ideas. It is explained that employees will work for the good of their job and if the expectations from those above are to be sustainable with the right skills and support they can all be working towards a sustainable future.
One rhetorical device that is used is Logos. This is seen when it says, "The role of any employee is to support his or her company in achieving its mission, which is to provide a good or service that customers want at a price they're willing to pay. But with any luck-and the right combination of skills and support-those employees just might make the world a bit better in the process" (Bader). This examples how the author is using reason to support her claim. We know that as part of our jobs we need to support what we are working for even if we do not agree, it is our job. Being that this seems like a fact to most it is with reason that we could also be supporting sustainability if it is one of the companies goals and purposes. This use of logos was direct and relatable which made it so easy to understand or come to reason with.
Using the Information Literacy Framework I observed The information given is part of a continuing conversation. This article continues conversation because most are employed, managers, CEOs, and knowing that we can be a part of something bigger could stem new conversations, make people see who they are working for, or even be an advocate to a company who might already be promoting sustainability.

In the last essay I was able to reflect on Sustainability on the topic of environmental racism. In doing this I was able to learn of the different ways a community could be denied the opportunity to be sustainable and have a sustainable environment. Due to this they had different battles including health issues across the community and a overall “dirty” city.

As I thought about a research topic I though of those who can make one of the biggest impacts being college students. They are being introduced to the world and are choosing what they want to pursue. What better audience than them! I want to inform my audience about what is being done in colleges across California but also argue about what can be done.

When thinking about this the question that came to mind was “How are California State Universities practicing sustainability and what can be done?”

With this research question I hope to reach out to all students attending California State Universities and those hoping to apply and are researching the schools. In doing this I hope to shine a light on what is being done but also what we can still do to work on moving towards a stronger sustainable campus and even hopefully inspire people to do the same in their own homes.

When reading one of my biggest strategies is to stop after reading a paragraph to make sure I understood was was written. Especially when it comes to research. It is easy to get lost and when doing this I keep myself on track. Also, highlighting or writing notes on the margins is helpful when looking back on the article.

What is difficult is a new topic that even I am educating myself on. Yes, I am looking for evidence but along the way there are different opinions and new viewpoints. When reading over this article I found myself rereading to get a better understanding and put myself in his shoes.

What helped the most was being patient and rereading when I needed to. Taking the time to understand is incredibly helpful when going paragraph to paragraph.

Some questions I still have would be how to be more analytical in the process so it runs smoother when running into the possibility of not knowing what a paragraph is about. Also what other ways people find reading the best.

The narrative of my topic is that sustainable education is important and should be taught to schools as it is beneficial to others. The antithesis to this is that sustainable education should not be taught and is not beneficial in the lives of others. The counter-narrative is that sustainable education is in fact helpful to others but also understanding the position that others are in is important. Understanding why sustainable education is not prioritized and were that stems from. This helps me write about this because it shows a deeper point of view as to why professors do not take the time to address these matters.
