The types of deception are: deliberate misleading, staged manipulations in field settings, deceptive instructions, deception by omission, failure to disclose full information about the study, or creating ambiguity. The researcher shouldn't deceive participants unless there is no alternative but even then this would have to be acceptable to a certain degree. However, some research has to involve a little deception because without it the research can't be done. Participants if ever should be deceived as little as possible and that deception cannot cause any distress. Researchers should be able to determine which participants can handle deception and which participants cannot handle deception.
