Why a Fashion Ad?

It allows me to be creative and lets me play around with camera techniques. Such as extreme wide shots as well as extreme close up, etc. An advert isn't restrictive when it comes creativity. You can make anything as long as it is tune with the product itself.

You can go about any way you want. In this case, I chose something as vague as a campaign for a clothing company. A number of ideas came to mind when looking for inspiration. I stumbled across ZARA’s first. It pulled me in and enticed me into making similar imagery.

The Premise of the Video

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rmz9_jagKo
The premise of the advert is that it's a promotional video for a fashion brand.

I planned on it being artistic and mysterious so that the viewer can interpret the ad themselves which ever way they like. Similar to an ad that I was inspired by, Zara. The director and cinematographer, Gordon Von Steiner, used two locations with multiple actresses.

Each shot had at least two actresses, obviously showcasing the clothes from the brand themselves, however not as blatant as you think.
The clothes were not being showcased via runway style ads or solo shots of the products such as-https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wlmDBJBaIsg . If you noticed the difference, it was much more subtle and low energy.
So, that's exactly what I went for. With the help of my two family members

As the inspired ad portrays, I only wanted a few models to give the advert similar vibe. When reading Steiner's project you feel a sense of intimacy, a feeling that the audience experiences when watching this all the way from their homes.
He's done that by, using empty locations, almost stranded. The only person/people in view are the models intended for the shoot. This draws your attention towards them, most importantly, the product. in this case, the clothes,

Due to COVID-19, recruiting model/actors for this project has been extremely difficult. Understandably, putting their life at risk, as well as those in their household for a college FMP, the cons outweigh the pros.

I planned on working with a DSLR, provided by Lambeth College. Of course that didn't happen due to the pandemic. This resulted in me using my iPhone as my camera. Luckily, the iPhone is renowned for it's camera quality as well as it's stability.
I started off filming on an android and also planned on using an app recommended to me by one of my teacher called FilmicPro. It gives an average phone techniques and qualities that of a camera. However, I switched to an iPhone after purchasing the app which meant that it was unreachable to me.
Nonetheless, I was able to attain stability, focus and other shoots that I planned,

The Use of Sound

I wanted to liken my soundtrack to the Zara's. They used a piece of music that is strictly instrumental, whereas I've used a song by Sabrina Claudio called Truth Is. Though it has lyrics, it gives off the same feeling as when you watch the original.

Why is sound/music important in advertisements?
It’s important because it sets the tone and mood of the ad for the audiences watching. It creates ambiance and is also used as a tool for great editing.

I’ve only watched Steiner’s advert a handful of times for me to get the gist of his project. Coincidentally, after looking back, I’ve used similar shots, which I tried to incorporate into the video.

Editing this project, I tried to have different approaches. Should I edit and cut according to the scenery or according to the music? I chose the latter. You'll notice that to almost beat drop, I change the shot. I included shots that vary in length as to not bore the audience.
