Despite the amount of power you have, you decide what you do with it, although there are different kinds of power, and depending on that power your abilities in a situation could change. Based on your power, and what type of power it holds will affect the outcome of the situation presented to a person. An example of this would be towards the beginning of The Tempest when royal people and sailors were on the boat during the storm. Gonzalo said, "The King and Prince [are] at prayers. Let’s assist them, for our case is as theirs, (Shakespeare 1.1.54-55). To further define what Gonzalo said, he means the royal people were frightened, because of the knowledge that they lacked, whereas the mariners were not as afraid because they were able to stabilize their emotions and use their knowledge to their advantage.

Knowledge can determine the power you have; however, knowledge can be limited to specific environments, situations, and personal abilities. Depending on the situation the amount of knowledge needed in order to find success varies on what that situation is and what skills you might need to deal with it. An example of this type of power caused by knowledge would be the situation of Ariel. Ariel is a being with lots of knowledge about the world around him and is very aware to the point where he can tell Prospero what he wants to know. When Prospero summoned Ariel, Ariel responded with "I come / To answer thy best pleasure," showing that he is willing to help and share the knowledge he has (Shakespeare 1.2.224-225). Later in the conversation, it is shown that Ariel is someone with great knowledge because he goes into detail about the people who got washed ashore.

Act 2 - Power

Power Theme: Power is something that can easily be abused when someone has too much of it, however, people will justify the actions they take due to the amount of power they have.

Being power-hungry can corrupt those around you, especially when they are willing to go as far as they need to in order to obtain that power

Evidence: When Caliban is making a plan to kill Prospero, Stephano chimes in and says "I will kill this man. His daughter and I will be king and queen," he does this because he wants to hold a higher position in power and he believed that the only way to do that was to kill Prospero (Shakespeare 3.2.116-117).

Act 3 - Perspective

Perspective Theme: Once someone has an immense amount of power it can affect how they choose to justify their decisions, regardless of whether or not they are truly justifiable.

Evidence: When Ariel, who works for Prospero tells Alonso, Sebastion, and Antionio, "I have made you mad; / And even with such-like valor, men hang and drown / Their proper selves," it proves that Prospero is abusing his power by justifying the idea that Ariel is go insane to get Prospero's revenge (Shakespeare 3.3.75-77).

He pledged to not sleep together before their marriage and was saying that it was mainly about their love rather than anythings else.
