My first image was of a very geometrical design which looked like stairs, and my other square was of a painting of a girl smiling. To combine the two I knew that I wanted part of the girl as my focal point and then in the background having a very geometrical design. And in the end to tie everything together, I decided to add a road to show that the path to Audrey's dreams in New York. Some areas which I've really grown in are utilizing unknown techniques, using limited resources, and also the quality of my pieces. I think that I have really improved on utilizing unfamiliar techniques because throughout some really hard pieces I earned how to use the techniques to my advantage (ex. transfer, upside down, etc.). In these projects I had to work through the unfamiliarity, an end up creating a project far better than what I would have expected! I think that have improved on using my limited resources because now I think of new and different ways to solve my problem, instead of getting frustrated and quitting, And lastly, I think that I have really improved in the quality of my pieces because in the begging of the semester I didn't really focus on many details and I focused on the big picture. But now I focus on every detail more than the big picture, because the little details are the important things that lead up to the final piece. Overall, I had a very great experience in this art class, and I have really found a burning passion for art! I would most definitely pursue art as a future career, because I find that doing art is a kind of release that helps me relax. I really enjoyed working with new techniques this semester, and learning new things. One really helpful technique that I learned this semester is turning the piece upside down to get a new perspective and to challenge the logical side of your brain. I chose the picture because I really loved how I caught him in the moment and how adorable his little face looks. I also really liked this picture because I really liked how simple yet detailed the background looked with the wood as the entire background. Overall, this was really challenging to draw, but I am pleased with the result. I think that this project really helped me improve on proportions within my pieces, and also it allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and experiment with new techniques. For example, for the really challenging parts of his hands I flipped the paper upside down and I just drew the shapes, rather then allowing my right brain to take over and make him have the generic shape of fingers. I also used the pencil proportion technique. I mesured the proportions from his face to the size of his fingers in the picture to get an accurate representation of what the size should be on his hands compared to each finger. Overall, I learned a lot from this project and I really enjoyed doing this project because it allowed me to showcase new skills that I didn't know that I already had.
