It originated on July 4, 1776, when the delegates of the thirteen original colonies unanimously declared the declaration of independence, which officially gave life to the United States of America. Today, there are forty-eight contiguous states (with Washington DC as federal capital) occupying the central area of ​​North America between Canada and Mexico and are bathed by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west, plus the state of Alaska  - which occupies the northwestern territories of North America and borders Canada to the east and separated from the Bering Strait with Russia to the west - and the State of Hawaii - which is an archipelago halfway between America and Asia in the North Pacific -. In the American flag you can see the 13 original colonies (13 white and red stripes) and the 50 current states (50 white stars in the blue field)

With an area of ​​9.370.000 km² in total and about 325 million inhabitants, the United States is the fourth country in the world per surface and the third by population.

The geography and climate of the United States are extremely varied, with deserts (Sonoran, Valley of Death), plains (the Atlantic coast), forests (Yellowstone), mountains (Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada), Lakes (Superior, Ontario), rivers (Mississippi) and several active volcanoes (Yellowstone Volcano). There is a wide variety of fauna and flora (with about 18,000 species of vascular plants and flowers, over 1.600 species of animals, fish and birds and 90.000 species of insects), favored by very different climatic conditions: from the iced and cold winters of the Northeast, to the hot and torrential summer of the South and West; from the tropical climate of Hawaii to the Arctic of Alaska.

It is one of the most multiethnic nations in the world, produced by a "large" immigration already begun by the time of pellirossa. The most commonly spoken language is American  English, but Spanish and Chinese are also used.

The United States is a developed country, the economy is fueled by an abundance of natural resources, numerous infrastructures and high productivity. The country accounts for 39% of world military spending, being the first economic and military power, a leading political force in the world and the first in the field of scientific research and technological innovation.
