Using The Hate U Give, 57 Bus, and maybe Just Mercy, I hope to have students highly engaged in examining the world around them and finding their own voices.  My goal is to further push research, active reading, evidence supported responses, and lots of writing.  I am hoping to use Ted Talks, Op-Ed pieces, and lessons on rhetoric. Ultimately, my plan is to improve upon my previous documentary project as the culminating project.

Hmmm...

I would love to see us develop or find a useful grammar tool we can all adopt. (Maybe No Red Ink??)

I think we would benefit from more vertical and horizontal alignment.

I want time to collaborate on grade level lessons, so we can capitalize on our varied strengths, while sharing the workload.

I'd love to find a way we could participate as a department in the California Writing Project or work with Facing History or KQED to reenergize our curriculum.

In addition to building bonds with "challenging" students, I think my strength is creating engaging big ideas for units and finding connections for kids. (But it is HARD to pull off alone.) I also think I do a decent job teaching writing, but I need help finding a way to systematically help my students improve their grammar.
