Nick Carraway went to college with Tom Buchanan and Tom is also the husband of Nick’s cousin, Daisy. And at a very young age Tom was already considered kind of like a star since he started off as a football player, and now he is wealthy enough to support himself and his family. Tom could have also been given something big because he became successful and had many accomplishments like going to Yale University.

During this Chapter we are introduced to 4 settings. East egg, West egg, Valley of Ashes, and New York. East egg is known to be the home of all the wealthy people with nice and expensive houses where Tom and Daisy Buchanan live. West egg represents new money where people can live lavishly and perfectly. West egg is described as less rich or less fashionable but West egg is still a nice place. Gastby lives in West egg in his huge mansion and then Nick Carroway lives a small house next door to him. The Valley of Ashes is a depressing area that's between Manhattan and West egg. Valley of Ashes is pretty different than East egg and West egg. The Valley of ashes can be mainly described as “ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills.” George and Myrtle both live in the valley of ashes. Lastly is New York. New York is where all the new money is and New York can be good and can be bad, wealthy or poor, clean or dirty.

To me, I think green is more about wealth, and about money and clothes and shoes. I also think that the green light mainly represents Gatsby and Daisy. After 5 whole years Daisy as Gatsby finally met again. It represents the past love that they had. And how Gatsby wants to be with Daisy again but in order for him to be with Daisy he had to be rich he needed to have a lot of money. To me in our culture I think green means environment or money. How money helps Gatsby it helps a lot of people with a lot of different things.

During this chapter when we first start to hear about Gatsby we all wondered where his wealth came from, where he got a huge house and all that. In the beginning of the chapter we were told that his family had past away and he inherited a large amount of money from them. Nick Carraway was told that Gatsby and his relatives graduated from Oxford but then later we find out that Gatsby went to Community College and his family was pretty much nothing like he said they were like rich and famous and graduated from a good school.

Now this chapter is quite interesting. So much goes on in this chapter, and the love in this chapter is honestly complicated and confusing at the same time. This was the time Daisy had to choose between Tom or Gatsby. But we all pretty much knew who she was going to pick. There’s so many things wrong with this triangle of Tom, Daisy and Gatsby that is confusing to many. For one I don’t think Tom loves Daisy, he might love her a little bit but I don’t think that means anything to him or her. I mean come on you cheat on Daisy with someone else and think nothings wrong with it and just go on with your life just like that. How could you be in love with someone but cheat on them? That doesn’t make any sense and I think that’s so wrong. If you really loved someone you wouldn’t even think about seeing someone else. Now for Gatsby, I think that Gatsby does love Daisy so much and Daisy loves Gatsby also. Their love for each other is weird and confusing. They broke up so long ago for a reason so why suddenly does he fall in love with Daisy again? And Daisy she’s all over the place to be honest. She doesn’t know what to do. She needs to figure out who she really wants to be with. Or I mean you can choose no one but that’s really her decision to make and it does take time so it’s up to her at the end of the day. And for Fitzgerald I think he’s trying to say that love is confusing and complicated.

The cover of this book says a lot about itself. A lot of people say different things about the cover like why are there eyes in the front cover or why did they have to put this as the cover. When you take a look at the cover of The Great Gatsby you see that the cover is blue with sad eyes in the middle. The color blue kind of represents sadness in a way. Many people are drawn to the book because of what the cover is or what the title of the book is and that’s what I mainly get drawn to is the title of the book or even if the cover looks interesting and cool. To me I feel like the cover of the book describes the story very perfectly because there is so many emotions and so many things going on in the book.

For this final chapter the American dream can be seen as something many people don’t have. For the American dream many people say that you have to work for what you want in life and you’ll end up getting it sooner or later. But money doesn’t always make a happy life or make you happy. It might make you happy at first but I don’t think it’ll make you happy forever. An example of wealth from this story is Daisy. Daisy lives in a huge house and is wealthy but at the end of the day she’s unhappy. She ended up with someone who is dedicated to their lifestyle and who is actually pretty happy where she is. Another example can be Gatsby. He’s pretty much like Daisy, he has everything that he needs and he has all this money just for him but he’s alone and he’s unhappy. He doesn’t know what to do. He lies a lot just so people can be ok just so he can put on a show about how he became wealthy. I definitely think many people do this when they’re unhappy because they are just like alright whatever and just do what they need to do because of how boring they are and how boring their life really is.

In my own life I have experienced a couple of things from the text. While reading The Great Gatsby, In the beginning of the story Gatsby started out with pretty much nothing but then he got everything that he wanted after. And I think I’ve experienced this because when I was little my parents had me and my two siblings at a young age. We lived across the street from my grandma's house in our apartment with one room in it. While we were little my siblings and I shared a room together and my parents slept on the sofa in the living room. Sometimes when it was our birthday we couldn’t afford to get a cake so we shared a cupcake. As many kids went to preschool, we didn’t. Both my parents had to go to work but my dad taught us the ABC’s and numbers. We lived in the same house for 14 years and my parents had good jobs and worked hard. When we were 14 and still in the 8th grade my parents found a great house out here so we decided to move from LA to here and it was so much different and more amazing. There was so much more space and we all loved it. And now I am 16 and almost 17. I am so grateful and proud of what everyone in our house does. And I’m so happy that no one gave up and we all stayed together and have a better mind set and a better place.

As in the story where Daisy, Tom and Gatsby were all in a love triangle this part of the text reminds me of a couple of songs by Olivia Rodrigo where she writes songs about her ex boyfriend and his new girl. If you listen to all her songs then you can tell that she still loves him even after everything he has done. Everybody thinks that he cheated on her with his new girlfriend but in fact she says in one of her songs called “traitor” she says “guess you didn’t cheat, but your still a traitor”. She was in a show with him so I believe that’s how they met and that’s how they started dating. Nobody really realized they were together until she wrote all these songs about him when many people saw him with someone else 2 weeks after she posted a picture with him. You can tell that she still really loves him and you can kinda tell that he loves her too. In one of her songs she tells everyone in an interview that her favorite line from the song was “god I wish you would’ve thought this through before I went and fell in love with you” because she knows that she loves him but she can’t really do anything about it now that he’s with someone else.

In the past and right now a lot of people didn’t have much, like a house or a bed, food, car, clothes or anything. In the great Gatsby we find out that Gatsby didn’t have much and started out with nothing but later on he got everything that he wanted and needed. In the past and today there are so many people out there struggling to do what they can’t really do. They are struggling to pay for their house or pay bills or find a job that’s for them, a job that actually wants them, taking care of their kids or cleaning there house. And that’s really hard to do. But I believe that a lot of people who are trying to get a job and trying to get money and are really trying to do there best and do what they can are really trying to give it there all and if they aren’t then it doesn’t really matter to them but it should! It should matter that they can try and keep trying to be someone and do something they want to do even if no one is by your side you’re doing your best and that’s good!
