Erik Erikson determined that psychosocial development occurs in eight stages, The first one being one of the most crucial and important stages of infancy. Infants begin to learn to trust others especially the caregivers, guardians mainly taking care of them! As a young girl born with a hearing disability, as a baby I was easily startled by sudden loud or high pitched sounds. Similarly to feeling endangered due to confusion. However, my father would show me pictures and images to help me correlate that the noises were safe and not harmful.

The second stage of Erikson's Development theory allows children to have basic understand of how to take care of themselves. Whether this be taking a shower, feeding themselves, and changing out of their own clothes. In grade school, I was In charge of Waking my younger sister and picking her out something to wear for school as well as my own by the age of 8. I would also prepare a small bowl of cereal for breakfast before we left to start our day at school. This also taught me how to dress accordingly based on weather and temperature outside.

In this stage, children are introduced to more basic learning concepts especially in a school setting. They also begin to adapt and apply this in real life. They are expected to practice these concepts and begin to understand that they can accomplish goals all on their own. However, if they struggle and fail, meanwhile needing help to achieve those goals, they may begin to feel guilt towards themselves. Soccer is an extreme and vigorous sport to play. Being a young 9 year old girl starting out, I didn't understand why I wasn't able to catch up to some of the girls who had also never played before. They were all also advancing well on their own. My father realized I needed help additional help in order to build skill. Because of this and compared to the other girls on the team, I began to feel guilt.

In the fourth stage of Erikson's theory kids begin to show deeper interest in subjects taught within school and start to apply more logical reasoning towards the thing they are learning about. This also includes attaching multiple meanings to a word rather than just one. In this stage, In the 4th grade I began to show a passion for spelling and writing. Thus, becoming quite skilled in English reading and writing overtime. I was not only becoming passionate, I noticed Erik Erikson's theory was already working into play as I noticed I was naturally applied the English skills I was learning, towards my daily life.

This fifth stage typically begins to shift its focus towards middle childhood and allowing children to find their sense of self, or ones identity. As children begin to transition from early childhood to young adults they start to explore and experience the meaning of their personhood. A great example of this is usually found in middle school. A age 13, I found myself in what was introduced to me as a clique of African American Minority girls. Not only did we have a lot in common, but we were able to build a bond and a peer relationship with one another. I also began to experience the meaning behind peer influence when it came to clothes, makeup, or new slang terms. giving and receiving new information from each other that helps us discover our needs and values as I grew as a person.

This is an important stage as children begin to transition from middle childhood to young adult. Some may even call this the mid-life crises. This is a time where people ponder and debate if they are ever going to be capable of finding a future spouse or fear that they may end up spending the rest of their life alone. This is typically the stage where young adults experience the most vulnerability considering this is when they meet a lot of people in their lives. Most young adults are so fearful that they remain single for a long time. I can say this is my current stage in life and crisis as a young early 20s adult. I have speculation that mastering what was noted in the fifth stage of Erikson's theory and applying this towards the sixth stage, may allow a smoother resolution of not being alone as I continue to explore myself, passions, values, and desires. Then, this will allow me to share those discoveries with others.

Now we are beginning to enter Erikson's seventh stage which focuses on adults typically in their 40s and 50s. These are people who have reached a point in their lives where they feel they must contribute something towards society to ensure they don't feel like an unproductive member of society as well. So tend to find meaning in their work and do their best to establish a legacy left behind for people to remember them by. My father is a great example of this, I speculate as I get older I will be able to exhibit a same positive attitude that will allow me to contribute to the future and make it a better world to live in. Thus, exploring the meaning of generativity.

This stage focuses on the audience of people who are most likely leaving the workforce or are retired by now. The elderly do a lot of reminiscing in stage, and recall the many years prior and feel satisfied with how much they have contributed during their lifespan. However the very few that don't experience this behavior, usually experience a feeling and sense of despair following that.
