About the Keystone Biology Exam

• The Keystone Biology Exam is a test you should take at the end of your biology course.

• It measures your understanding of key biology concepts and skills.

• The test has two modules:

  1. Molecules to Organisms – Structure, function, and natural cycles.

  2. Continuity and Unity of Life – Genetics, biodiversity, and evolution.

Question Types

• Multiple-Choice Questions (1 point each)

  • Choose the correct answer from four options.

  • Only one answer is correct.

• Constructed-Response Questions (0–3 points each)

  • Write a response based on the question’s instructions.

  • Answer all parts of the question to get full points.

    
    

Scoring & Depth of Knowledge (DOK)

• Questions vary in difficulty from Level 1 (Recall) to Level 4 (Extended Thinking).

• Multiple-choice and written responses are graded based on accuracy and completeness using a scoring guide.

  
  

Test Format & Timing

• The exam is available on paper or online.

• Multiple-choice questions take about 1–1.5 minutes each.

• Constructed-response questions take about 8 minutes each.
