In the beginning, you can see she is clearly very close with her Grandma and is very emotional about the situation. She doesn't seem too happy with her current life and is going through a bit of a hard time. Her family (specifically her mother) seems to be upset with the way she is living in America and wonders if she would've done better in China.  A moment that stuck out for her character was when she found out about her Grandma and although you can see how much it is affecting her she then takes a bit of time to think and realize she would rather be there for her family than ignore the situation.

He doesn't seem to do well with pain and has a history of holding it in. One of the first things billi asked when she spoke to him was are you drinking again.
