The answers are usually the same or similar for all learners, and tend to focus on rote memorization of facts or application of ideas to scenarios" (Crosslin, 2018).

Slido could be used at the beginning of my online course to figure out how much my students know about digital literacy and digital citizenship as well as how they feel about writing. I could also use this tool throughout the course to perform informal pulse checks.

Since students would complete this course prior to the beginning of a new school year, I would use NWEA Map testing at the end of the course to determine how much my writing instruction has prepared them for 6th grade Language Arts. The test reports would also show my students where they stand and give them an idea of how they would perform on state testing.

While students can create written responses within the Canvas LMS, I would have them log in to NoRedInk, which middle school teachers use for grammar and writing practice. For this course, I would assign a few Quick Writes about scenarios related to plagiarism, cyberbullying, and ethical technology use.

There are two ways that I would use Flipgrid in my online course. First, I would have my students create a video detailing their idea of a "digital citizen superhero". I would also like for my students to create a video explaining what they should include in a paragraph when they use the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) strategy.

Since the CER strategy is used heavily across content areas in middle school, I would assign skills practice in identifying claims, evidence, and reasoning in IXL.

Canva is one of my favorite websites to use when creating announcements, resource sheets, videos, presentations, etc. For this online course, I would have my students create an infographic about the importance of online safety and privacy.

One of my main objectives in this course is for students to improve their writing skills, but as helpful as teacher feedback can be, I would allow students to collaborate on a few writings in Google Docs. Students could work in pairs/small groups to leave feedback on and help their peers to improve their writing. Since many students work asynchronously, working in Google Docs would help them to see comments on and changes to the shared document(s) without having to set a time to meet to collaborate.

I currently use Microsoft OneNote to distribute passages, graphic organizers, assignment packets, etc. to my students. I often describe it as their digital binder. During my online course, my students would add pages to a section dedicated to their CER drafts. This would create a portfolio of their writing. I would be able to view and leave feedback on their writing, and this would also help the students to see their growth.
