Toddlers are a sponge with words. One of the most common mistakes is when parents begin literacy, and immediately teach children to read and write, but literacy begins before the child can words words on the page. The literacy center is the ability to convey and receive meaning through words.

Children who participate in meaningful language experiences build a vocabulary bank that will immensely help them decode words and work to understand the text.
The children's extensive vocabulary facilitates understanding of the context surrounding words.

The conversation is gold. It's the most efficient early learning system we have. Since conversations are the richest element in early learning. For this we must pay attention to the way we talk when we teach. For this it is necessary to avoid the arguments before the children, since they are ideas and they exploit in the language of the children.

The language used with children and used in cuetos or books is totally different. Children's books are a step forward in terms of vocabulary, with descriptive words and phrases outside our everyday language.

When reading with children - and stopping an authentic discussion - children are exposed to a number of new vocabulary and advanced words within an attractive and meaningful context. Dialogic reading is a powerful practice, it is the incredible combination of conversation and reading packed in overloaded language and literacy activity. In addition to all the benefits of literacy, these discussions keep kids engaged and are simply exciting and fun (for adults too!).
