Nuts & Bolts- 1929 vs 1987

The two greatest economic catastrophes of the 20th century (1929 & 1987) were both bitterly detrimental. The odd part is that both crashes happened during a time of apparent prosperity in our nation. The only warning sign for both was a dip followed by a sudden rise in the value of stocks in the months leading up to the great crash. In 1928, stock prices fell 10%, and then rose 8% the following week. In early 1987, stock prices had risen dramatically, continued to drop by 8%, and sure enough rose another 6%. All these waves of stock prices made for an inconsistent Dow Jones Industrial Stock Market.
In both instances, stocks were traded at an alarming rate, and this led to panic around the world. There was no monetary consistency, and the basis that our economy was built upon was no longer. In 1987, computers even began to take initiative and sell stocks because they were programmed to do so when prices fell below certain levels. With constant human supervision, it is believed by many that the extent of the crash would have been lessened.

comparison of what followed

The comparison between what followed after both of the stock market crashes in 1929 and in 1987 was that it was very detrimental to the economy for a while after the crash was over. more significantly in the first crash of 1929. The crashes made it very difficult for the society to recover form the very detrimental loss of the stock market. People would put if very hard situations and the economy was very poor following the crash. In the crash of 1987 the economy did recover better than the previous crash in 1929. that crash has been said that it worsened the effect of the great depression and make the once prosperous society into a worsened state and caused panic both times.

Comparison of the causes of both crashes

The causes vary beacause both have disagreements on the main cause. The main cause of the crash of 1987 was inflationary fears where investors were concerned that the inflation seen in the past would return, thus causing interest rates to increase. The causes of the crash of 1929 involve margin buying where people would trick the system and once the crash happened These margin buyers causes worse problems due to them not being able to pay back loans because stars were basically worth nothing. In 1987 there was also a big cause where the stocks were overvalued. Similar to margin buying, speculation and investors were trying to get rich fast by twisting the system, eventually stock prices rose to far too high compared to their earnings are prices were bound to drop. For 1929, there was bound to be a crash for years with little steps starting the way and eventually falling over the tipping point while in 1987, it was much more unexpected and much more short term.

The crash of 1929 and 1987 were very detrimental to the society at the time they both happened in a time of prosperity in the nation and really knocked people off their feet because of the very inconvenient time when people were living very prosperous lives in the US. the crashed were happening because there was fluctuation in the inflation and price of stokes and it would go up and down and cause confusion in the nation and it was very hard to communicate and make things work because the technology in both crashes was very poor and it was hard to fix anything when the communication is poor. Both crashes were devastating to the society.

over all both crashes sent the society at the time (1929 and 1987) in to a very sensitive economy that was struggling to support itself and provide for the nation. Both came at a very prosperous time in society and would make it very difficult for the nation to recover which it would have a harder time in 1929 because it would later result in the great depression and that was one of the worst economic states the US has ever been in and both of these times that the stock market crashed the nation wold become scared that the depression would happen again and their was feel of a weak economy when we needed a strong nation.
