I come from a musical family - because of that, my parents named me “Sangeet”, which means music in Punjabi. I chose to begin with an Alaap (vocals without words) in a folk Raag: Bhairavi, to honor my heritage. A Raag is a type of tune used to express ourselves - with voices, strings, and percussion instruments. You can use any kind of instruments, even your voice, to show you belong! Your voice can be a powerful instrument — you use it all the time. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed writing, creating, and singing it.

My song “One Rhythm” is important to me because it represents a community where different beats come together in harmony. I used a hi-hat, snare, and bass drum to create a composition from various parts of a drum set – just like how friends with different skills and abilities can come together to play a sport. When we include others, play, and have fun together, we create a strong and united community.

This song was inspired by the idea that our true home lives within the mind. I drew influence from visionaries like Walt Disney and Hayao Miyazaki. Just as Disney built a kingdom from his dreams and Miyazaki created cinematic worlds of wonder, my song constructs a “dreamland” where I truly belong. The music and lyrics invite listeners to a place where “monsters are gentle” and “imagination shines”—a world free from limits. It expresses freedom, creativity, and inner peace, reminding us that everyone carries a world of belonging within themselves.

This jazzy blues piece consists of a head and an improvisation, ending with a short lick. The head represents most people in the crowd, flurrying with different identities. The improvisation really stands out from the rest and is the most captivating section of the piece. The ending is a chord which is very unlike the rest of the jazzy blues tune but really fits in with the feel of the song.

This melody comes from the darkest time of my life, when I was rejected from a community I thought I fit in. Being cut from the basketball team after years of dedication made me question my worth. I captured those emotions through melody, as music also led me to a new community, a sense of belonging with people I couldn’t see or hear past the screen, but who embraced me nonetheless. This piece blends the past theme of Hope with the new one of Belonging, reminding us that after loss, we can find where we truly belong, often unexpectedly.
