Analysis:

Interviewed: Dawn Klein (school nurse)

• Windsor is a town that's in developing process, which the traffic in town sometimes could get very rough.

• Lack of medical workers in town due to Windsor isn't a town that's very well known, not a lot of people come here to work ( also because it isn't a very well developed town)

• Lack of medical workers due to the government funding for medical field

• Lack of medical workers due to license not recognized (Ex: you used to be an phycologist back in Congo, but you moved to Canada with your family, if you want to be a phycologist again, you have to redo college or exam stuff like that.)

• Solution to the lack of medical workers: Raising awareness of the lack of medical workers (Ex: assembly on the topic try to get more people's interest into medical career?)

• Lack of Homeless mental health awareness. and this caused a lot of them started doing drugs & alcohol which having a major impact on how Windsor looks like and also a negative impact of the people in the town especially the youths (FYI: there's multiple school nearby/ in town)

• Homeless needing shelters ( In process: new housing (apartments ) building in process)

Analysis:

• Bigger sense of community between junior school and senior school

  • Bring back Senior buddies

  • Make junior and senior school less of 2 separate schools.

• Better support system for juniors

  • Give junior tutorials

  • Create more awareness from teachers about school stress

  • More opportunities for juniors to get help with both educationally and mentally.

• More help for boarders

  • More chances for boarders to get help with homework during prep.

  • Period available (possibly in the library) with tutors for boarders to get help.

Interviewed: Jenn ( local primary care provider/ nurse practitioner )

medical care access ( eg: mental health support)

• providers ( definition: physician someone for your personal health care)

• not attractive enough for them to work in primary care

• Windsor is a small town that people doesn't want to live here

Lack of mental health care

• people isn't aware of it, and Jenn also said:" as a primary health worker I see a lot of them, but compare to someone who works in a hospital maybe they don't see as much."

• eventually cause to a family/ generation not doing well in life choices and career etc.

• generational mental heath puts an extra tax on our medical system, and Jenn also said:" as a primary health worker I see a lot of them, but compare to someone who works in a hospital maybe they don't see as much."

• the reconciliation is getting better, but still slow

• leads to addiction issue and that leads to homelessness since all the money they got they are just going to spend on the drugs

• if homeless people can get treated they could poetically get jobs

  • primary health care workers can't really manage it (time availability)

  • they would need to access to mental health support to get treated .( not very high chances) as well as they do need a shelter and meals for living (basic human living needs)

  • Needs a good while to get them treated and that's hard because just to keep them on track is already a lot of work

  • recognizing mental health is existing and importance is significant

    • more people recognizing mental health

  • at least 2 people a day needing mental health support but also needing social assistant's help (ex: money, shelter)

    • a lot of them are not capable of it, needing something between the primary health workers and the patients especially when they are homeless

    • mental illness and disability isn't something you can see instantly, it's more of a inner struggle which causes the government thinking that they are fine they are not very qualified for the social assistance but in fact they are not able to work or maybe they really needed help due the the inner struggle they have

      • " I look at you, I don't see any reason why you can't work?"

      • Ex: one of the patient Jenn had was having an addiction and homeless. and Jenn really wanted to help but the patient did not have an address which they can't get help by the social assistance. but the reason the person is homeless is because they have no money, and no shelter.

Homelessness issues

• wealthier people tend to not see what's happening

• people not appreciating our base social economics -- not much money

• lack of housing / Forterall housing (getting worse)

• Temporary housing not permanent housing ( not enough time)

• soup kitchen exists, but not everyday, and if it was everyday that'd be way better just so they can at least get one good meal a day for living

• temporary shelter only for one night, but usually not too long (still has limitation)

• the cause of the homelessness? could be a lot of things: mental health issue? addiction? homeless people did NOT choose this, and we don't know that.

• reconciliation from the government

• cause of homelessness: childhood trauma, military serving trauma, or even just being diagnosed can contribute to them

• primary health care workers do try to help as much as they can and often talk about it as well but there is very few of them (lack of primary medical workers)

• interaction can be hard for them, it can be uncomfortable and scary for them and why not just meet people at where they usually are

Local food bank donation needs

• too much bread ( not the best thing to donate since human needs nutrients to survive as a healthy human being)

• female products (ex: Panama, underwear, socks etc.)

  
  

Solutions:

• Advocacy-- maybe a soup kitchen can provide everyday meal ( not even hot meal but just a carry meal even like a sandwich or something)

• attract provider and practitioners. how? beautiful town, a lot of changing, close to the city, sending kids to KES etc. and needing to recruiting the provider team

• food donation

• be open minded about it, we are all lucky with what we have today and a lot of people don't have that.

• in the abilities where we can and where we could to help them

• see what the donations really needs? ( pads, temples etc)

• arrangement between the soup kitchen and KES kitchen

Successful examples:

• soup kitchen everyday

• doctors checking up on homelessness health condition

• providing soup kitchen station (to meet people where they are) be there consistently there just so they know you guys are save for them

money really needed overall

try to see things out of your zone

they are all straightforward issues

they're all complicated as well, and there's so many layers of it

Mrs. Wade also mentioned how more support to the 2SLGBTQ+ community is here top priority out of these three topics as of right now.

Some possible actions to this could be

• reaching out to arts teachers (Mr. Simonar, Ms. Fillman, Ms. MacLean)

• getting involved with community arts (ex. mermaid theater) and make connections, see if you could make it so KES students could do arts outside of school during school/sport hours?

• Are the students engaged at KES?

• Could engagement be better?

-snow days with online school is an issue in the community because the system does not work for some students.

-Finding issues in the community and fixing them to make student life better.

-Issues with school dress not being followed but fixing these by adding summer dress.

-It is also a need for more student engagement to make the student body healthier.

Analysis:

Lots of things were discussed in this interview, but the main issues that he focused on were:

• In need of more water sources

• Cell towers, in need of more

• Homelessness he did mention, but there is only so much in his power he cane do he did mention, but there's also something we can do too

• Conflicts with homeless people not getting along with each other
