Economic growth refers to an increase in the amount of goods and services produced per head of the population over a period of time. Economic growth leads to increase in GDP. The benefits of economic growth include higher average incomes, lower unemployment, lower government borrowing, improved public services and more investment. 

However, it is not always a good thing because it may not benefit all sections of society equally, as this essay will argue.
