One strategy I have already implemented is the use of anchor charts for everything. They are a good resource for all of the children regardless of their background. Students find them helpful during math too. I am learning from a team mate how to put more graphics on mine.

One strategy I use all the time is a "Picture Walk." Great way to have an introduction, include background knowledge, intro vocab, etc.
A strategy I may try is Paraphrase Passport. In a discussion student listen to each other and then share (paraphrase) what the other said - great for listening and speaking skills.

Teach the Text backwards is a recycled strategy that I current use but I really like the Cornell Notes because note-taking by middle school students isn't really taught and they really need more structure to do it well.
