The image for chapter one I foreshadows that someone is going to get left behind for someone else . Artie is visiting his dad after a long time since they don't get along that will and it gives us the answer that Artie and his father doesn't get along that will to have a close father and son relationship. Vladek tells his son about the how he meet his mother when he visited his family in Soswowiec and started to date after he break it off with Lucia which was hard because Lucia wouldn't let him go because she loved him to much to let him go and this is important because it helps us understand what the chapter was about and why it was named sheik. Before Vladek was even able to marry Anja she was so close to breaking i off because Lucia told her that Vladek w only wanted to marry her because of all the money she had but that wasn't the case because Vladek didn't care for the money because he wanted to marry her because of love and this is important because you can be happy only from love and not money. Vladek tells Artie that this part of his story he doesn't want it to be showed and that's its not important but Artie tells him it is because it shows people that are humans. The irony that Artie and his father have in their conversation is that they are doing humans things but they are not drawn as humans and for Artie to say"It makes everything more real-more human"(pg. 23).
It foreshadows the happy moments that Vladek has had with Anja before the war begin. Vladek tells Anja that she can't be friends anymore with the communist this is important because its tells us how Vladek feels for those type of people. Vladek father-in-law helps him start up a tile factory to start making and selling tile and this is important because we are going to learn that it will be taken away in the future. Anja was depressed and had to go to a sanitarium and Vladek went with her and on the train ride there they saw a Nazi flag hanging high this is important because it emphasizes that something big is going to happen. Vladek gets a draft letter in the mail and this is a big part in the book because it states that its times to fight in the battle to keep your freedom. The animals that are used to portray the Germans and Polish are pigs and cats. Pigs are usually associated with being dirty and messy and cats are known to keeping to themselves. I like that Spiegelman uses different animals because it gives us a feel of predator and prey in the book to help us understand it more. Vladek is a very well strong man that would do anything to protect his family and fight for his proud. Through chapter 1 and 2 nothing changed my perception of him because he doesn't want everyone to know what he went through during the Holocaust so he tries tell Artie to leave some things out of the story,"I don't want you to write that in your book"(pg.22).
The title foreshadows that the war has started and Jews are already being taken in as prisoners. The image tells me that the Nazi are very violent towards the Jews because they are pointing guns at Vladek. Vladek yells at Artie for not eating all the food on his plate and this explains why Artie and Vladek don't get along that will because from his childhood they bumped heads. Vladek was made to shot even through he didn't know what he was supposed to be shooting this is important because Vladek doesn't know why the war has come to this. Vladek lied to the Nazi solider and says that he was just shooting in the air but he has actually killed someone and this is important because it the start of all lies in order to survive. Nazi solider takes him to a camp and this makes him a prisoner of war this is significance to the story because we are about to learn about the treatment of Jews in the camps they were sent to. Spiegelman visually shows us in an image of the Germans pointing a gun at Jews heads ready to shoot them and shows us two other German laughing and drinking liquor to show us that the Germans enjoyed killing the Jews and did not care for them. The incident of the coat tells me that Vladek wants the best for his son but he doesn't show it the correct why and Artie doesn't like that his dad thinks he can make decision for him because he is an adult now and not a little kid.

Spiegelman writing style is very conversational because it is in a form of a graphic novel so all the images are giving the readers the answers as you read through. He write with Vladek having imperfect English in that helps bring out the book more in terms of the dialogue like when he make some of the words bold that doesn't really need to be bold,"I have for you a warmer one"(pg. 69). He uses the allusion of the Jews being mice and the Germans being cats and we all know that mice is the prey for cats to kill and get rid of them.

In chapter four we can see from the title page with the Jews being hang that something bad is going to happen in the chapter and it foreshadows that the Jews are being killed. Spiegelman introduces his family this why so we see who is who in the family. The technique accomplish is that we can tell they have feelings and the mug shots will not be able to get that across. Vladek lies to his family because he wants to kept half of it to himself. This tells us that Vladek doesn't trust that many people in his life. He includes the notice to we can know what the Poles was asking the Jews in order to get them together and not as separated. He knew about it when they sent Jews to get gassed and he was afraid about his family and knowing that he needs to protect them. It was a difficult choice for them because they didn't want to get separated because they have been together for a long time. Vladek doesn't want to hire a handyman to fix a leak in the drain pipe because he doesn't want to waste money on things that is not important. Vladek tells Artie that his mom had a dairy after the war but he doesn't tell Artie were it is. Two Jews has been caught giving away items without getting coupons in return and the Nazi sets an example by hanging them to show all the others Jews that they can't do that or they will end up like them dead. The family is starting to be separated after they grandparents are taking to die alone in a camp. Art tries to find his mom dairy after his fathers is asleep to get her story.
In chapter five from the title page Mouse Holes it foreshadows that the Jews are going into hiding because a mouse hides in the hole they create for protection. Mala calls Artie at seven thirty in the mourning telling him that his dad is trying to fix the pipe by himself. Vladek sees the Prisoner comic and he hates it because it bought back bad memories for him. Vladek shows Artie Anja ring and he regrets getting remarried. Vladek gives Artie a key to his safety box just in case somethings happens to him at the end of the chapter. The Prisoner comics makes Vladek upset because it brought back horrible memories of his past when he read them. Vladek tells Artie the time people were poisoned and a bunch of Jews got sick. The Jews were poisoned by cousin Pesach when he was selling slices of cake to the Jews because he used laundry soap instead of flour and it made some of them sick. None of the panels shocked me because I already know certain event happen like this during that time to many Jews. Vladek and Anja is walking in they come a crossroad that is drawn as a Swastika. This image tells us that even if Vladek and Anja are walking freely the Nazi still have control over everything and they are not able to get away from it. Vladek comment about Mala doesn't seem true to me because Mala is really timid around Vladek because of his strictness in the house.
In chapter six the title Mouse Trap i think it means that the Jews are going trapped into something that they can't get away from and the image suggest that Vladek and someone else is going to be struck somewhere in danger.Artie comes back to the house and finds Mala crying because she thinks his dad treat her like a maid.Artie shows Vladek some of the comic he has already started sketching and Vladek says that he find it very interesting. Vladek and Mala start arguing about how many times she goes to the hairdresser and not spending time with him. Vladek and Anja went to Sosnowiec to try and get somewhere safe before nightfall. Vladek and Anja board the train to go to Hungary but they were later arrested and separated because they were betrayed by the smugglers.Artie is having a dilemma because he is worried about how is going to portray his father correctly in the book. Artie calls Vladek a murder once he finds out that Vladek burned Anja diaries. He uses since a strong word because he lost great content that could have helped make the book more understanding. I don't agree with Artie complete but I agree with him because so much history was lost when Vladek burned the diaries but I also don't agree with Artie because murder is such a strong word for someone that had seen so many people murder and to compare them is horrible.

Spiegelman is still using the use of animals as the different races so that we can tell all of the characters apart. We see that he is using the cat and mouse metaphor which is that the mouse is the cat prey that will continue throughout the book. All the images for the title pages helps explains the foreshadowing of the chapter as I read and that really nice because we can tell what is going t happen in that chapter just from the title page.
