         <description><![CDATA[<div>Thoughts that I had about the U.S. involvement was how they thought the Filipinos were less than human. They came into towns and started shooting and torturing innocent people. An order they got was to kill everyone in the town because one of their men was killed. This shows that they simplest thing angered them. I still want to know: how did FIlipinos react to this? Did they hide? Fight?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The U.S. took over Philippines and controlled it in the worst way. They killed everyone, innocent and not. Age didn't matter, sex didn't matter, nothing mattered to the American soldiers that enjoyed killing these poor filipino natives. I thought, how could Americans be so inconsiderate and crazy to be excited to kill people, that's just messed up.</div>]]></description>

         <title>It seemed like the american soldiers were doing this just because they wanted to. They treated them very poorly, tortured them till they were dead, and they even killed men, women, and children. The american soldiers were the ones being barbaric. All the Filipinos wanted was their independence. Yes, the soldiers were ordered to go take them to a better civilization but not like this, they were not ordered to treat them like a piece of trash.</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For me it seems like the soldiers did act on orders, but many of the documents seemed to show that they were just torturing citizens for no reason, not even to get information out of them,  just for the fun of it.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I thought that the stories told by the soldiers, made it seem like they had beaten up and killed the natives on purpose and that they had almost felt enjoyment from it, because the orders they were given, were very unclear. But I feel that it was good we had taken over the Philippines because we were able to sell and receive things from the opposite side of the world. But it really was a bad thing that the soldiers had done to the natives. </div>]]></description>

The soldiers were only following orders, however, the U.S punishment could've been more sincere and less forceful. We were only using the Philippines for a gateway into China, we don't need to do that by killing thousands of helpless citizens.</div>]]></description>

These actions of American soldiers caught my eye and I thought about how similar this is to other nations in the past, like Germany holding prejudices towards many groups and religions. From the articles, I couldn't really see anything the Filipinos had done wrong, but the Americans still treated them terribly and thought the Filipinos were much lesser than themselves. It reminds me of what we did to the Native Americans who were here before us. Also, terrible things that we had no right to do to people who were there before us. The absolute atrocities that we committed against these people. Whether it be orders or thinking the people are non-human, these people are being killed with no remorse at all. Why didn't they try to stop it? or do anything about it?</div>]]></description>

It also reminds me of what the United States did to African Americans enslaving them into labor. I can most relate this to what the U.S. did to Native Americans; killing them, displacing them, and taking their homelands for themselves. When the U.S. stop being greedy? </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Reading these documents taught me how cruel we were in the past. Many of these innocent people were shot down with no remorse. This first showed me that the soldiers were relentless. Most of the acts I read about in the primary documents seemed unnecessary and knowing that many lives were taken out of vicious and over-the-top acts of violence makes me disappointed with my country.</div>]]></description>
