During Reconstruction, many people were attempting to show the south about the inequalities of slavery. During reconstruction, the country also worked on having the 11 states that left the Union readmitted into the country.

The 13th amendment helped to abolish slavery in southern states. It also states how enslaving a person is a crime and there will be a sentence. 

The 14th amendment granted citizenship to all of the residents of the United States no matter their race, background, or ethnicity.
