  • Currencies in which contracts are made important in volatile currency situations
  • There are pros and cons in contract types (freelance / local employment contract), giving choice could be helpful
  • One year / short contracts create uncertainty
  • "Irregular" contract types make colleagues not feel part of the team
  • Contract and contract description does not match the job/tasks
  • Contracts issued after staring already
  • Local staff (e.g. project manager who should work on the ground) won't receive DW Contracts with the same wage just like HQ staff
  • "Irregular" contract types and short contracts deprives colleagues of government advantages and/or access to loans  
  • Having Budget or Staff Responsibility and/or getting direct supervision is usually contradictory with freelance contracts

  • Minimum contract duration e.g. 1 year or project duration (ideally a contract duration must be connected to the length of the individual project)
  • The lack of security shall be reflected in the fee. Freelancing contract is fine but it is desirable to include minimum fringe benefits such as sick-leaves, holidays, travel costs (including a per-diem), etc. Standards as sick leave, holidays, health insurance should be streamlined
  • Same rights during travels for all contract types
  • More clarity about the contract type means
  • Accurate/streamlined job description (including proper job positions). Approach-from bottom to top
  • Some salary plan
  • Build some knowledge management system which carries information about existing practices.
