The article talks about the nuclear disaster in Chernobyl and how it happened. It explains that the accident was caused by mistakes made by engineers during a test on April 25, 1986. They turned off important safety systems and inserted the control rods in the wrong way, which made the reactor unstable.

Because of these mistakes, the reactor overheated and exploded, sending radioactive materials into the air. The article also says that the disaster affected not only Ukraine but also many European countries. Radiation spread and caused health problems like cancer.

In the end, the article discusses how the disaster made people lose trust in the Soviet government because they tried to hide information. Some people believe that Chernobyl was one of the reasons why the Soviet Union collapsed.

Why should we improve our critical thinking skills? Today we should make objective, resoned and logical judgement and decisions. They should be based on interpreting and understanding evidences. Many people cannot make the right decisions in critical situation, that's why this article suggests us the 5 ways for improving this skills.

First, being open to a range of ideas is crucial. While having your own worldview is important, it is beneficial to expose yourself to different perspectives. Many people surround themselves with like-minded individuals and only consume information that aligns with their beliefs.

However, engaging with diverse opinions helps us assess our own viewpoints, recognize mistakes, and develop a more well-rounded perspective. Reading various articles, news sources, and listening to people with different worldviews can significantly enhance critical thinking.

Second, it is essential to be less reactionary. Keeping emotions under control during discussions allows for objective reasoning. For example, if you are debating a topic related to your field of study and your opponent disagrees with you, reacting emotionally might cloud your judgment. Instead of arguing based on feelings, it is important to step back and consider the full picture of the situation. This approach enables rational decision-making.

Another key aspect of critical thinking is recognizing bias. Bias is information shaped by stereotypes or preconceived notions. While not always negative, bias can influence our opinions and beliefs. Learning to identify biased information helps us make more informed and independent judgments.

Finally, asking questions is vital. If you do not understand something, seek clarification. This is especially important when encountering new information or hearing different opinions. Digging deeper into a topic can reveal new insights and help you form well-supported conclusions.

By developing these skills—openness to new ideas, emotional control, recognizing bias, and asking questions—we can enhance our critical thinking abilities and make better decisions in everyday life

chanel contos supports australia's proposal to ban social media for younger users, but she believes this measure alone is insufficient to tackle the deeper issues at play. the real concern lies in the harmful algorithms used by these platforms, which are designed to keep users engaged for as long as possible. these algorithms promote addictive behaviors and contribute to the intensification of political divisions. young people, in particular, are vulnerable to the content these algorithms prioritize, which often includes harmful and dangerous material. platforms push content that reinforces unhealthy beliefs, such as body image issues, self-harm, and hateful rhetoric.

while contos acknowledges that social media can have positive impacts, such as facilitating campaigns like teach us consent, she points out that the same platforms also allow for the spread of toxic content that can have long-lasting negative effects on mental health, especially for young users. the combination of these risks makes it clear that social media companies must take responsibility for the harm they cause, whether intentional or not. however, until these platforms make meaningful changes, contos views the proposed age ban as an important first step to mitigate the negative influence of social media on young minds. it may also empower parents to make informed decisions about when their children should be exposed to these platforms, hopefully encouraging safer online spaces for the next generation.

Health charities want new rules to help reduce heart disease. They suggest putting warning labels on food, adding taxes on salty products, and stopping junk-food companies from sponsoring sports events. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) believes these changes could save 11,000 lives each year. Heart disease deaths have increased since 2019, even though they had been going down for decades. The BHF also wants to ban junk-food ads on billboards and radio to prevent companies from promoting unhealthy food. The charity says food companies should make their products healthier by removing hidden salt and sugar. They also believe that simply asking companies to change voluntarily does not work. Instead, they want the government to make these rules mandatory. Some food companies agree that action is needed and have started reducing sugar, salt, and calories in their products. However, the government has not said if it will follow the BHF’s plan. Right now, they are focusing on increasing health checks and making new laws about smoking and vaping.

Health charities are advocating for stricter rules to reduce heart disease. They suggest placing warning labels on food, taxing salty products, and banning junk-food sponsorships in sports. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) believes that these measures could save 11,000 lives each year. Deaths from heart disease have increased since 2019, reversing a trend of declining rates over the previous decades. The BHF also proposes banning junk-food ads on billboards and radio. Some food companies have acknowledged the issue and claim to be creating healthier products. However, the government has not committed to implementing these proposals. Instead, they are focusing on increasing the frequency of health checks and introducing stricter regulations on smoking and vaping.

The article discusses cutting down on sugar and salt, which are linked to heart disease. The charity recommends that the food industry produce nutritious products and also advocates for banning junk food advertisements—including radio ads. The report found that nearly 39,000 people had died before the age of 75. The charity further urges the government to take tough action and to force the food industry to stop making unhealthy products that harm public health. They claim that a levy on sugar and salt can prevent 2,000 people from developing chronic illnesses. The Food and Drink Federation agrees with these measures and states that it is necessary to address the issues of poor diet and excess weight, which can lead to cancer. Businesses have invested £160 million to produce healthier food.

The hard hitting warning labels must be put on junk food packaging. In addition new taxes should be imposed on them as well.Because many people are experiencing diseases from eating these products. These kind of diseases might be heart attacks and strokes which can lead to demise.Fortunately BHF company is working on this case to ban these food or reduce amount of them. The charity is not sitting in one place too. They are trying to urge the government to take a look at this case and force fast food industries to reduce the amount of sugar, salt and oil. Also they might be forced to make their products more nutritious.BHF is willing to help people more, they are asking ministers to obligate food producers to put stark warning labels on cans, bottles and tins by altering people of its risks. They always mention that government must be ambitious for its citizens and take care of their health. And in fact there was a huge step for changes from government's side in 2023 UK spent about 160 mln pounds to make calories, sugar and salt less in products and make them healthier with vegetables and fruit. But it didn't make a sense. And recently The Department of Health and Social Care promised society that they will pay attention to this case and try to minimize the harms from those products.

For example ban companies who advertise thier junk food on radio or billboards or by writing warning on cans, bottles and tins with providing good information about health risks.

When writing this article, the researchers wanted to answer the question,,Can what you eat change your mind ? " . A person with poor mental health might have a less diverse microbiome because they've eaten a limited diet. When you drink sugary drink , your brain processes the sensory information about taste , bubbles on the tongue , and so on . These signals consolidate your behaviour and they tell your brain to continue to drink again in future. This is an ancient form of reward - based learning. However , it helps us find food thar perform us and drinks that extinguish our thirst. Once something has made you sick , your brains learns strongly and quickly to manage clear of it . So can what you eat change your mind? To some extent, yes . What we know for sure is that whatever's on the menu , your brain really is listening to its gut . More information you can find in article by Camilla Nord .

The article discusses how the brain responds to different types of food. Some foods can shift from being considered “healthy” to “unhealthy.” Your gut plays a crucial role in this process, signaling to your brain whether a particular food is beneficial or harmful.

Many factors influence the gut microbiome, including what you do while eating. For instance, interactions between people during meals can have an impact. Research suggests that individuals with poorer mental health, such as those experiencing depression or anxiety, tend to have a different balance of gut bacteria. This may be due to reduced social interactions and the effects of antidepressant medications.

The brain, however, is not just a passive receiver. The signals it receives from the gut are carefully processed and filtered. It extracts only the necessary information, prioritizing two key questions: Does the food provide usable energy? and Could it potentially cause harm?

For example, if you drink a sugary beverage, your gut analyzes the experience and determines that it is satisfying. As a result, the next time you encounter the same drink, your gut may signal your brain to seek it again in the future.

This raises an important question: Can the food we eat influence our thoughts and emotions? While there is no definitive answer, one thing is certain—your brain is always listening to your gut.

For example, Brice Royer, founder of tcks.com, his father half French and half Vietnamese, while his mother Ethiopian.Brice lived in the seven countries before he was 18. Moreover, one of the TCKs, Elizabeth, her father moved from Jamaica to Britain, and her mother was born in Britain.
