Better food, beds, warmth, free things, and so on. But having such luxuries had its drawbacks, using them was almost guaranteed a death sentence. From malfunctions on the planes, getting shot down, having to ump out, the list goes on. Having to destroy even a single enemy airship was an accomplishment. Billy Bishop went ahead to not only surpass 5 destroyed planes,  ( which meant you would be an ACE) Billy surpassed that and all pilots in WWl, with a total 72 kills and making out alive.  when in the trenches you were nothing more than a number in the commanders eyes. Well during the war the "plane" was a new invention and only a few people can actually fly and shoot at the same time the fact he when on numerous missions when he was told he was just gonna last 2-3 weeks. As we discussed that the plane is more dangerous then normal trench fighting and how he lasted that long and killed that many people that's pretty awesome and only a few out of  a lot did the same thing he did.

The idea of flying through the sky and defeating the enemy almost made them seem larger than life to people at home. Many stories and new articles focused on the pilots because this is what people wanted to hear about.
