You are going to watch the video on how to do the activity.  You will need one square of paper towel and markers to trace the pattern.   You can also see how far the ink will travel.  What other ways can you experiment?
Recycle Learning: use toilet paper/paper towel rolls, empty cans, empty plastic containers and tape (duct is best) to create props for stories, tunnels for balls, binoculars and music instruments; practice putting objects in, out, under, or on top of.

 
2.   Solve the following story problems using the UPS Check or CUBES method. These problems will have multiple steps and extra information! 

 

A.  Mrs. Tudor is packing up her classroom library for summer. She has put 47 books into a box and it now weighs 30 pounds! Mrs. Tudor will place another 65 books into the box. Mrs. Tudor still has 743 books left to pack. How many books will be in the box?

 

 

B.  Fairview Elementary needs donations for new playground equipment. The new slide will cost $7,244, If 8 people give 365 dollars each and 2 people give 185 each, how much money will Fairview have towards buying the new slide? How much would they still need to buy the slide?

 

C.  A the end of the year, Mr. Kelsik was cleaning out the storage closet in the gym. On Monday, he found 17 pairs of shoes, 32 t-shirts, and 3 stinky socks. Tuesday, he found another 16 pairs of shoes, 4 deflated basketballs, and 86 ping pong balls. How many shoes did Mr. Kelsik find in total?

 

 

D.  The school nurse is doing hearing and vision screenings today. She has completed the 24 students in Mrs. Tudor’s class, the 26 students in Mr. Jeffries class, and 7 of the students in Ms. Vance’s class. If Ms. Vance has 24 students, how many more does the nurse have to do in order to finish Ms. Vance’s class? Ms. Washington is a third grade teacher and has 18 students in her class. How many students are in in the fourth grade?
