Approximately 95% of the glass and all external metal parts can be reused. At the same time, all external metal parts are used for re-molding cell frames. The remainder of the materials are treated in a thermal processing unit to ease the binding between the cell elements. Companies like SolarCycle are actively working to recycle end-of-life solar panels, extracting valuable materials such as silver and copper. These materials are then sold to manufacturers for use in new products, contributing to a circular economy.

Then they're identified and sorted based upon which type of battery it is, and this involves a lot of moving around and changing hands. Larger batteries are evaluated for reuse or repair. The batteries are then shredded down, and separated into different metals for reuse. Researchers are looking for ways to reuse batteries more without going through all these steps.
