They are basically given the same powers over their given state that the President has over the country. They have a lot of decision making power just like the president would. It's like each governor is the counterpart of the president for their state as I said. They can enforce laws and sig bills and etc. for their state.

State governments have a more direct impact on the daily lives of citizens because state governments can make larger changes, due to them only having to make laws for a small amount of land, compared to a whole country, that might often make more smaller changes because those changes effect a much larger area, with different climates, citizens, ect.

The more funding a state has the more opportunities it has to provide for its citizens. If a state has a big budget and lots money then it can have better schools, roads, and equipment for first responders. But if a states poor then their roads may be broken, their schools may be bad while their curriculum is bad too, and their first responders may be missing important gear.

Because there's less people that they have to tend to with a smaller area, compared to government where it's the whole of United States so things like safety education and health that the governor has to take care of and the needs of each state are different.
