Creating an oral history project taught me about how different immigration experiences can be for each and every person. It's important to have many sources, because there are often many different interpretations of the same event by different people, and the diversity of the sources allows you to see the diversity of opinions and experiences, and thus, it allows you to gain a more accurate understanding of the event.

The process of creating an oral history project taught us how we are all immigrants and how other have it harder than other. Recognizing that some people's journey to the America is harder based from where they come and economic status. It also taught us how lucky we are to be born in US and that we should take being born here for granted. It is important to have a diversity of mediums because we are able to read, hear and see other immigrants stories. Being able to see different immigration stories and how different they all are.

Each type of medium helps teach different aspects of the stories to different people in order to explain them.

Creating an oral history project has given us unique perspectives of the experience of an immigrant. Learning facts from history textbooks does not provide the full picture of an immigrant's story; you need to talk to them to really understand any hardships or events they faced. Through this project, we all got to learn more about the stories of these people in our lives, as well as compare and contrast all of their individual immigration experiences. It is important to have a variety of different sources to learn history from because people have different styles of learning, and a diversity in sources allows you to see history through diverse views.

The process of creating an oral history project has taught us our parent's stories, a greater appreciation for our circumstances, and help us understand why our chosen person came over to the US. All of us learned the struggles our parents faced when emigrating to the United States as well as the challenges. We also are more grateful that we are here today in this class and that we do not have to face some of the struggles our parents faced. This presentation has also helped us further our understanding of why our parents came over. It is important to have a diversity of historical mediums because presentations like these are saved on the internet, so it is easily accessible. At the same time, some historical mediums are easier for people to see. With bright pictures and colors, this helps us learn about each other's stories in a fun way.

This project helped me learn more about my mom's immigration story and the struggles she had to go through and it also taught me that so many immigrants stories are different and are coming here for different reasons. Some might be coming for education, new opportunities, or because conditions in their current country are not good. Also, I learned that those who spend most of their childhood and young adulthood in a different country usually do not identify with being an American. It is important to view history from many different lenses, so you can understand everyone's side and get a variety of sources to help you come up with a bigger picture.

Creating an oral history project has taught me that there was so much I didn't know or think to ask my dad about before all this–about my grandparents' immigration story or what life was like for my dad growing up. It taught me that even though every story about immigrating to the US are different, there are similar points that connect these stories–whether it's the motivations, the belief in starting a new life in America, or the struggles/challenges immigrants go through upon coming here. This also taught me that everyone does have a story–even my dad, despite being an American citizen his whole life, has his own fair share of experiences that have caused him to question his own identity as an American. It's important to have a diversity o historical mediums because each medium offers a different perspective or take on immigration history–some are objective, informative, and general like a textbook, while others are personal and moving and rich in emotion like photos or oral histories.

It's important to have diversity of historial mediums because history molds individuals into the people they are today. Their values, cultures, beliefs, and other background information shape a person's identity and by understanding one's history, we learn more about why they live the way they live and believe in the things they believe. It's important to share our histories in order to have a conversation, respecting different points of view.

This process taught me the differences in perception between my parents and myself. I would never have known how they felt about specific issues unless we had done this project. Something my mother said that really shocked me is "It feels good being a woman in this country." She said this in a very non-sarcastic way, because she comes from a country where sexual assault and domestic violence is not talked about as blatantly as it is in the U.S. Doing this Oral History project gives us different perspectives on issues, perspectives that are not found in textbooks or other articles, which tend to be told from a very singular point of view. It is crucial to gather a multitude of perspectives on current events and history, to get a more holistic view.

It was amazing to here everyone's story and see just how different the experiences, opinions, and journey is. I think it is important since everyone's voices should be heard, especially in a time when those who are immigrants or wanting to immigrate here are being denied. Its important to share this history so that people know immigrants aren't different than anyone else in America. It make's sure their history is not erased.

Something that we learned from creating this project that not all immigration journeys are rough in a sense where there is discrimination or hatred towards a certain race. Also, learning about personal experiences make it easier to connect. Overall, there's more than one type of immigration story and the greater variety allows us to appreciate them more.

group: Kanika, Isabella, Ashley

The process taught us that the historical events (i.g. World War II, etc.) are still relevant today and still have an impact because the people that experienced them are still here today. It is important to learn their stories and from their experiences so we can see from a personal perspective of what the events and what people went through were really like. It's important to have different mediums because they provide different ways of understanding the events for a bigger audience.

group: Amelie Licea, Yashima Birly, Sophie Meckstroth

The process of creating an oral history taught me to be more grateful for what I have. Although I knew other countries were suffering, I did not know in what ways and how it negatively impacted families. Because I was born and raised in America, it is all I know and it easy to "get used to" or talk about the flaws of the country. I now have a new understanding and I realize how scary it may have been for a young boy to move away from his home. It is important to have a diversity of historical mediums because it allows us to share our history and stories and allows us to come together. It is also important that we welcome and treat immigrants with respect because we are all the same and deserve equal rights and opportunities.

This project put into perspective how hard it was for my dad and mom both to come to the US and how far they have come since then. I tend to take advantage of the resources I have, but doing projects like these make me realize that some people have to struggle for basic things I take for granted. It taught us that our parents really do the most just so we can have a better life and we should be grateful for that. Its important to have a diverse historical mediums because it give us a chance to look at first hand issues and things people went through to get into our country and also in general our past.

This project provided different viewpoints of who is included/ excluded in the American dream/identity. Despite these differences, it also taught us that many immigrants/refugee share similar stories of their travels and how they adapt to American life, even though they came from different places and times.
It is important to have a diverse amount of historical mediums because it provides context to the struggles, and factual reasoning helps provide a why to the causes of the experience.
