Essentialism is an instruction book for making something from IKEA, forcing you to follow the instructions with no further help.

Pros: straight forward, learning specific information

Cons: very old school, no help, textbook based can lead to confusion

Behaviorism

Behaviorism is training a dog to do a new trick, rewarding them when they do good, punishing them when they do bad

Pros: gets students to want to do good, can create positive environment

Cons: can affect behavior, could be bad for mental health

Positivism

Positivism is solving a problem, using facts and unbiases to find the answer to what you are searching for and if you miss one step, it messes up the answer

Pros: hands on learning which helps students learn, clear instruction with what they should be learning

Cons: limits knowledge to observable facts

Progressivism is a murder mystery waiting to be solved. Creating questions to find an answer and dig deeper into what needs to be solved.

Pros: it's about the learning, not the result, encourage students to challenge power and oppression

Cons: lot of choices to be made at such a young age, simply fixing problems

Humanism

Humanism is an art project, allowing the person to create what they want and go their own direction.

Pros: self guided, assessments are in the interests of students

Cons: hard to engage all the students because everyone is different

Constructivism

Constructivism is like a construction project, working hands on and problem solving throughout the situation.

Pros: hands on and problem based learning, teacher allows students to find their own answer.

Cons: not able to use for every subject, some need more guidance with certain things

My personal philosophy

My personal philosophy is like problem solving and a murder mystery. This goes along with positivism and progressivism. I do think that positivism can be beneficial but i do think that if you miss a step that it doesn't necessarily have to mess up everything, but kids can dig deeper and use their thinking skills to be able to find an answer, such as progressivism. For me, I am used to positivism and behaviorism which I do find beneficial in some aspects. Using reward systems for students can be beneficial and make kids actually do work but does have drawbacks. I do find benefits from all of these philosophies and I do think I will do a mix of everything. I want my classroom to feel comfortable for the students and help them feel more engaged. With my experiences form schooling I do find that grading can be negative to the mental health but rather grade on completion. I am a very organized person so with my classroom I want everything to be well thought out and labeled so I and the students can find things easily. I do think that motivation for students especially nowadays is extremely hard to come by so maybe using games or activities may help.

When talking about globally responsive teachers, they appreciate and value diversity and show respect for learners' varied talents and perspectives, and commits to the pursuit of excellence for all learners. This statement communicates that teachers recognize that students have differences but it does not stop them from wanting to create good learners. I agree with this statement entirely and I want students to feel welcome and recognized for their differences from everyone or their similarities. I have always believed that just because someone might be different from others, it doesn't mean that they can't or should be restricted from things. When talking about the dispositions in the statement, I can identify evidence such as 504 plans and IEP plans in schools to help students who may have a hard time with the regular classroom material. This relates to the claim that teachers appreciate and respect learners' varied talents and perspectives. Teachers also have discussions in class to also see other perspectives and other talents. I do think all of this is important, schools supporting their learners so they feel comfortable in the classroom. I do think that when I become a teacher, I want students to be able to embrace their differences and not be left out from the crowd.
