This shows why multiplication can be used to solve this problem.  <br><br>1B. 432 people can sit at the cafeteria at a time. I know this because I decomposed the numbers and then I did 10 x 20 = 200, 10 x 4 = 40, 8 x 4 = 32, and 8 x 20 = 160. Finally I did 200 + 40 + 32 + 160 = 432. This shows why 432 people can sit at the cafeteria at a time.   <br><br>2A. Multiplication can not solve this problem because you are supposed to add.<br><br>3A. Yes, multiplication can be used to solve this problem because doing 4 groups of 140 and then 560 groups of 36 = 4 x 36 x 140 except that it is less efficient. This shows why multiplication can be used to solve this problem.      <br><br>3B. The total weight of all the bricks is 20,160. I know this because I did 4 x 140 4 x 0 = 0, 4 x 40 = 160, and 4 x 100 = 400. After that I added all of them 160 + 400 + 0 = 560. Then I did 560 x 36 6 x 0 = 0, 6 x 60 = 360, 6 x 500 = 3000, 30 x 0 = 0, 30 x 60 = 1800, and 30 x 500 = 15000. Finally I added them 0 + 360 + 3000 + 0 + 1800 + 15000 = 20160. This shows why the total weight of all the bricks is 20,160.  </div>]]></description>

Part A: The equation can be solved with multiplication because if there are 24 seats and 18 tables and you add that you will get  42. Part B: 18x24=432 because if you break down the equation, it’s 10x20=200, 8x20=160, 10x4=40 and lastly 8x4=32. Now I added 200+160+40+32=432.<br>2. The answer is 59. Part A: Multiplication is not needed because the equation says “Jordan and Jason were practicing their foul shots and then it says How many shots did they shoot together?” I inferred this means adding. NO PART B. <br>3. The total weight of the bricks is 20,160. Part A: this equation can be solved with multiplication. I Know this because (140x36) x 4= 20,160. Part B: I solved the problem with algorithm but  it’s easier on paper so I did it on paper. Summary: The benefits of using the standard algorithm strategy are that we start at the the bottom  and multiply it by your top numbers and make your way on left. Also it is easier to regroup and add up!</div>]]></description>
