Muscles are made up of thousands of cells called muscle fibers that contract when we move. There are three types of muscles: Cardiac, smooth, and skeletal. Along with movement, muscles also help posture, joint strength, and produce heat in the body.

  • Skeletal muscle, the most common type of muscle, is attached to bones and joints and requires a message from the brain in order to move.

It is a very common type of disorder in children often influencing the way they walk and function daily. Some types of CP are spasticity, dyskinesia, and ataxia. Spasticity, the most common type of CP, involves the stiffening of muscles and can cause the patient to function or move around awkwardly. Dyskinesia can vary the stiffening of muscles by the day depending on the person. A person with Ataxic CP may find holding objects or coordination difficult. It's possible for a person to hold just one or multiple of these types of Cerebral Palsy.

  • Orthopedic residency (~5 years)

  • Pass an official exam to become a certified orthopedist

In Texas, the average salary for an orthopedist is around $298,657 a year.

Fortunately, it only affects her right foot. Ever since she could walk, she's worn a boot that helped her walk easier. She got foot surgery in 2017 that helped tremendously with her everyday life and she didn't have to walk around in a cast anymore. However, she still stretches daily in order to prevent the effects from reversing back.
