In today's world society, a lot of jobs and skills are based through technology/online skills. We must be able to have these skills and be able to teach these crucial skills to students so that they can be a driving force in society and compete globally with other societies.

Learning and Innovation Skills- These skills involve communicating with others and coming up with ideas, strategies, and solutions to problems/ideas. You must be able to think deeper at the issues at hand and come together with others to communicate this to peers, community, and the world. Being able to demonstrate these skills helps solve many important, tough issues and develop ideas to better society.

Life and Career Skills- These skills are what you need to be successful individually. You need to be able to adapt to issues or problems thrown your way while keeping others opinions in mind through other cultures and sets of beliefs. You must be self- motivated to achieve success while being a leader and accepting responsibility of successes as well as when you fail or make a mistake. This set of skills makes you think about your own choices and ways of thinking more responsibly to help society.

Information, Media, and Technology Skills- These skills are what drive most of the world now. Being able to use technology effectively to communicate, create, and present work and ideas is essential in today's society. Teaching kids how to use technology starts at a much younger age because of how much it is used now. The media reports so many important things to keep people informed is crucial as well. Being able to use technology and have access to what is going on in the world through media is what drives the world today.

8.01-Explain the founding and development of the Plymouth Colony, including the significance of: the Mayflower Compact, interactions with Squanto, and the role of religious freedom.

I would use this standard to allow students to dive deeper into the content and think more critically. I would have the students read and research the significance of the Mayflower Compact as an early form of self-government and write a detailed essay explaining its importance and how it laid the foundation for other self-government down the road. The students would have to connect this early government to how our government has developed through time in America to allow people to represent themselves and their ideas, beliefs, and freedoms.

8.18- Explain the historical and present-day significance of the Declaration of Independence.

This standard would be great for showing how to be a leader and having responsibility. You could have students form groups and write their own Declaration with their own rules, regulations, laws, etc.
This would allow students the view point of being in a leadership role writing a document for their people in their country (classroom/school). They would have to take responsbility by explaining rationale behind their rules and how to enforce them and what they would do to take responsibility if something went wrong with them. This assignment would put students in the position of leaders such as our government and be able to relate it to a school/classroom setting.

8.15- Analyze the social, political, and economic causes of the events and groups of the American Revolution, including:

The Quartering Act, 1765

The Stamp Act, 1765

The Declaratory Act, 1766

The Townshend Acts, 1767

This topic would be great for using media. Students could act as if they were newspaper reporters writing about the events that led to the American Revolution. The students would write newspaper articles covering the events above to get information out to colonists to support their cause. This would be a great example of communicating events to get exposure and recruit people to join the cause. Students would be exposed to media aspects to see if they enjoyed this type of work.
