Rockwell represents the universal right to worship freely through this painting which captures people of different backgrounds. In the foreground and background, there are the young and old, as well as men and women. To emphasize that the right to believe in a religion does not discriminate, Rockwell painted an African American woman in the background. This painting is significant as it incorporates those of various races, not only white Christians in the United States. Moreover, the use of color skillfully captures the warm feeling of peacefully having faith in a religion. The emotions shared by the people in the painting depict a world where human rights to worship freely is fulfilled.

The paintings are made in a subjective light so that people are able to interpret them however they see fit. The people in each painting are made to seem homely and ordinary to resonated with the average citizens of the US. In "Freedom from Want" the table and food is as the center while the people sitting around the table are almost cut out of the painting. This was intentional to demonstrate that no matter who you are, everyone should be able to gather, eat, and celebrate their history and culture. All people should be able to have their needs met and more, they should feel content. Although the meal is specifically a thanksgiving meal, it is still subjective to the audience because sharing a meal with friends and family is a universal experience that Normal Rockwell believes is an American, and human, right.

Rockwell utilised the social and political status of the time to present his artwork to help empower the people of America. By using the 4 different categories of freedom in his artwork he manages to pull the people of America into a deeper connection with their culture and stop any worrisome issues that have stemmed from the WWII era. By popularising his work he manages to remind Americans of their traditions and the freedom that stems from it. Americans freedom of speech has been a popular tradition that has been shared to this day by all Americans. to have the freedom to say what they want and express their opinion is a common favoured tradition between the majority. By resurfacing the idea of freedom, especially that of speech, rockwell was able to empower the people of America.

In "Freedom of Speech", Rockwell depicts the idea of freedom and expression through a man standing. The man's body language shows his courage to share his opinion during a town meeting despite being the only one to stand up. His mouth appears to be saying something brave, making other townspeople around him look up towards him. This freedom is a fundamental right that enables humans to express their ideas - in some circumstances, stand up against injustice. Rockwell empowers the audience to feel a sense of courage as the main character in the painting is speaking up for himself.
