BUT here's the big ol' but. But I understand why women don't, and I understand why women and do think that having kids is a "game-over" to having a career and aspirations. Let's take universities for example everyone gives us "ladies" the "there are so many in your shoes here, and we will all try to help you out as much as we can". OK, but we're not allowed to say I need help or I need guidance and I CAN'T make school my number one priority because I can't just not go to work because i'm bettering myself, I can't just write a note to excel electric saying: sorry I had to study for 20 hours this week instead of working so I have no money, I can't tell my toddlers that we're not going to do what they want because mommy is trying desperately to get on the dean's list... Then you go to the financial aid office and ask for help there and there is nothing but hoops. That's the university's way of helping? Mom's aren't college football players, so we don't get any extra resources or help. And quite frankly, no one cares if we graduate or not. They only care if they somewhat stumble upon one of the anomalies and can use us a a "success story" to put in their bulletin. Go bison.

That's just the education aspect of it, there are limitations financially, socially, religiously, emotionally...

But dad is a different story. As long as he doesn't run away nowadays he's given a pat on the back and gold star and get's to go on his merry way to further his career while mom worries about childcare and lunches.

I reluctantly went looking for what the "general" public defined feminism as.

Where did I choose to look? Urban dictionary of course! So I think the elephant in the room that always comes up when talking about feminists or feminism in general is the radical and negative connotation that the word seems to carry. Even now that my generation is becoming more cause oriented and socially conscious it still seems as though feminist is a dirty word. I read through most all of these definitions and was not surprised by what I read. People either love the cause or they think its the worst thing ever. The people who thought it was the worst thing ever thought they had the right to tear apart the cause with vulgarity and harassing words. Which, again, is what I expected.

Another thing I noticed though, was that it still seems as though the actual definition of feminism is still not well known. A lot of the definitions said it had to do with furthering only women, whereas we learned in our text that it is about equal rights for all. Which is a huge difference when it comes down to it. Equal rights is something that everyone can get behind.

Feminism and guns?

So I almost went back and posted this with the social construct of gender. The article states that a group of women are carrying guns so now it's feminism? and now it's what all women are/ should be doing? It's just kind of silly. I clicked on the article because I am a gun owner and I have my conceal carry permit so I was interested. I was annoyed when the article just HAD to point out that the women were afraid of the guns at first. To that I say, good. People should be afraid of guns. Men are afraid of guns too. Guns are not toys. Having a penis does not make you not afraid of guns. A penis is not a bulletproof vest. So yes the women were scared, but I bet you don't ask men if they're scared before shooting a gun for the first time.

The pink dress

So, this article states that Ivanka Trump is not a supporter of feminsm because she is wearing an overtly girly and pink dress.

I have a big problem with this.

The defintion of feminsim is giving everyone choices, which the article points out. They did not villanize anything she said, or stood for. They are villinizing the fact that she is wearing a pink dress and basically for being pretty. I can't say that I am an Ivanka fan, however I say "you do you, girl."

This summer I think on average I only showered 2 times a week. Usually only if i had to go to work or if it was a special occasion. With that, i only did my makeup and hair 2 times a week. I was pretty grungy and I probably didn't smell funky fresh. I wore sweat pants, shorts, no bra, and a tank top or t shirt- So can I be a feminist? Before the author and the Ivanka Trump scrutinizers answer that they should also know that I don't have any pink dresses, but I have two Kate Spade purses. they each cost over $200 a piece and I use those when I put on high heels and want to be cute and want to be looked at. So does that only make me a part time feminist?

I get where the author is coming from, however i think that it focused too much on appearances and perceptions rather than values and beliefs which is what we need to focus on as a community of feminists if we want to see change.
