The Flu Pandemic of 1918 was very deadly and took the lives of many people. About 1/3 of the worlds population were infected, and an estimated 20 - 50 million people were killed. During this time antibiotics and medicines were not created to cure the flu yet, so you either developed an immunity for the flu or died in the process. The flu is highly contagious and is spread through person-to-person contact or by contact with something with the virus on it.It was discovered in 2008 that three genes enabled the virus to weaken a victim's bronchial tubes and lungs and clear the way for bacterial pneumonia.

My Thoughts

My thoughts on this is that I think it is very crazy and surreal. This pandemic had more casualties than WWI. How often do outbreaks like this occur? Nowadays most casualties come from war or attacks, but how often do new diseases start infecting people and taking lives? I'm grateful that something this horrible hasn't occurred in a long time, but how long until it happens again?
