Legacy Lesson:
Begin by asking students what qualities they admire in themselves or in others. Invite them to write on the board. Make sure students agree on what the terms mean; define different virtues or characteristic as needed.

Next, ask students to determine 10 characteristics they want their legacy to be. Ask them, "What do they want to be known for?" They can use the list from the board or other qualities they think of on their own.

Next, for at least 3 of the characteristics they have selected, have them write three action steps they are going to do in order to develop that characteristic. It is good to complete this lesson after students have had an opportunity to learn how to write S.M.A.R.T goals.

Have them write this list and goals on the front page of their class journals or planners, somewhere that they will see often. Ask students to keep their lists to themselves, not share with other students yet.

At the end of four weeks, ask students to assess themselves. How have they been doing with their legacy goals?

After two months, have students form a class circle. Ask students to guess at least one of the characteristics that other students hope to create as a legacy.
