In the poem "O Me! O Life!" Whitman questions his own purpose in life and what his existence means in comparison to the big picture. The poet wonders if his life spent on earth is worthless and if he will have any impact to the world later on, or if he will just fade away into the background noise. Mr. Keating in the movie answers the question Whitman asks himself by preaching that each one of his students that they have a verse to contribute to the world and it and it has the opportunity to be powerful.
